Jorge Luis Llanes, 71, of Norwich, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 12, 2021, after a brief illness. He was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico to Guillermo and Ramona (Medina) Llanes, on March 11, 1949. In 1956, Jorge and his family settled in Hartford,CT where he attended and graduated from Albert I. Prince Technical High School.
On August 6, 1983, after a 10 year courtship, he married the love of his life, Abigail Sostre. Together they enjoyed cooking and hosting family get-togethers. Jorge was fond of the outdoors, including gardening and landscaping the home he shared with his wife, whom he affectionately called “Honey”. He had a knack for fixing things and amassed a vast collection of tools needed for the task at hand. He enjoyed vacationing where he would try new activities such as horseback riding and jet skiing. He particularly liked to visit the beautiful island of Puerto Rico where he was born.
Jorge spent his entire career, 47 years, at Electric Boat as an Outside Electrician until his retirement in January of 2020. He was also a Working Leader and a mentor to high school students in EB’s Shipyard Apprentice Program. He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union, Local 261. Jorge cherished the many friendships he formed at work.
Jorge was a member of New Life Christian Fellowship in Ledyard where he proudly served as a church Elder, a counselor, on the Security Patrol team, an Usher, a Prayer Warrior and Preacher. For many years, he volunteered his time sharing the gospel with inmates in CT’s prison system. Jorge was also ordained, and in September of 2020, he was very proud to have had the opportunity to marry his grandson, Peter, and his wife.
Surviving him are his loving wife, Abigail Llanes; their son, George Omar Llanes (Kristie) of Griswold; daughter, Judith Sanchez (Fernando) of Uncasville; his Son, Jorge Garcia of Florida; his daughters, Bonnie Llanes-Musumeci (Vincent) of Glastonbury and Lisa Llanes of Hamden; and his sisters, Lucy Harper of New London, Maria Marrero of Hartford, Gladys Ramos (Mario) of Ledyard, and Miriam Shands (Terrence) of Uncasville. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jorge was affectionately known as "Grampa", "Noni", and "Wito" to his nine grandchildren; Maurice, Peter, Ashley, Giuliana, Fernando, Juan, Nancy, Nyree, George, and Gianna; and eleven great-grandchildren; Marley, Serenity, Jayden, Juziah, Kiorah, Amari, Braydan, Brynlee, Khamari, Layla, and Ethan.
Jorge was a great man with a loving and generous heart. He was a devoted husband, an adoring grandfather and great-grandfather, and jokingly insisted that he was his sisters’ favorite brother only to be reminded that he was their only brother. Jorge’s smile, contagious laugh, and mischievous behavior lit up the room everywhere he went. He will be deeply missed by everyone that had the privilege of knowing him.
He was predeceased by his parents, a daughter, Linda Garcia, and recently by sisters-in-law, Sara Vega and Dorca Perez, and a brother-in-law, Felix Marrero.
A private memorial celebration of his life will be held on Friday, March 5th. Video streaming will be made available at 11:00 a.m. and can be accessed through www.lestergeefh.com by selecting Jorge's obituary page. Other relatives and friends are invited to join together at 1:00 p.m. at Colonel Ledyard Cemetery for interment.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org. Having participated in the Alzheimer's walk every year since his mother's passing, Jorge was passionate about raising awareness and funds for research of this disease.

I still can't believe I won't hear your laughter and your silliness. In the past few years. You have been such a comfort after Mami passed. You showed up when I needed something. The love you and Titi Abby shared was such a beautiful thing to see. You were such a tremendous man of God and an awesome example. Always so sharply dressed. This is tough but I know we will laugh again.❤
Until that day comes. I will miss you so much.
