Joe Angel “Pop” Herrera was born in Fall City, Texas on May 31, 1932. He passed in Dallas, Texas on January 11, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
His family moved to the Dallas area when Pop was younger; he spent his life in the area and was familiar with the streets and the ever-changing atmosphere. Pop married Vicenta Chavarria on August 13, 1955 and they were married for a wonderful 42 years.
Pop was employed with Glazers warehouse for 36 years and he retired from there.
His family describes him as a loving, devoted father and grandfather. Everyone who knew him called him “Pop,” and no matter who crossed the path in his life he never met a stranger. An avid Cowboys fan, Pop was devoted to supporting his team during the good times and the bad times. But most of all his dearest passion was his large family.
Pop was preceded in death by his wife Vicenta Herrera; and his son Jose Narciso Herrera. He is survived by his daughter Sylvia Herrera Meza; his two sons Joe Angel Herrera Jr. and Edward Herrera; six grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at Anderson-Clayton-Gonzalez Funeral Home on the afternoon of Monday, January 16, 2017 from 1:00 – 8:00 PM with a rosary service at 6:30 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin Guadalupe on the morning of Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 10:00 AM with a burial to follow at Oakland Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.

Our deepest condolences to our cousins Bobby, Edward and Sylvia. May y'all have peace of mind knowing he's with your mom now enjoying eternal life. Tio was known for loving to squeeze all the kids cheeks, I remember when I was a kid going to visit and trying to hide from him just to not get my cheeks pinched my own kids had the pleasure of his loving squeeze of the cheeks. But Tio sure loved to talk, he had stories and love his laughter he will be missed.
