Joseph BAIER Obituary
"A DAY WITHOUT LAUGHTER
IS A DAY WASTED"
Passed away on March 3, 2016 in Saskatoon, SK at age 70. Joe was born on November 8, 1945 in Macklin, SK. He moved to Saskatoon in 1967 to attend Kelsey, where he received training in carpentry. Joe joined John East Iron Works in 1968, where he stayed until 1986; he then worked in construction until he joined KW Petroleum Ltd., where he stayed until his retirement in 2011. Joe's life goal was to make sure he did his part to bring joy and laughter to the world. Friends and family experienced this at home, work, while supporting the sporting activities of his family and at other volunteer activities. He especially enjoyed selling 50/50s - "You can't win if you don't play!" His passion was music, and the accordion was his love that entertained everyone for years. In 2005, Joe was part of the Kimberley BC International Accordion Festival that broke the Guinness World Record (644 playing accordions). Joe is survived by his wife Ida (nee Weinkauf), who he married in 1969 and three sons, Shawn (children Summer, Boden, Joy and Jewel); Aaron (wife Jenessa and their children Oliver and Charlotte); and Tyler (wife Catherine and their children Blaise, Jarett and Atley). Joseph is also survived by nine siblings, Norbert, Lucille, Rudy, Paulette, Yvonne, Brian, Wayne, Bernadette and Chuck. Joe was predeceased by his parents Blause and Ramona Baier, brother Elmer and sister Shirley. A Vigil will be on held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Both services will take place at Holy Family Cathedral in Saskatoon, SK. Interment to take place at a later date. The family wishes that any gifts be directed 50% to Multiple Myeloma Canada and/or 50% to the Saskatoon Community Foundation. Uncle Joe will forever be remembered as the cheerful, humorous uncle who joyfully played the accordion. He was an incredible man, able to make you forget your worries and make you smile. Susan and I were saddened to hear of the passing of our former neighbour on Spruce Drive. Joe was quite the guy, a person you never forget! We had some great conversations over the years about his work and family. We enjoyed having dinner at their house. Our sincere condolences. A life well-lived.

Very sorry to hear about this, Tyler and family. I have many fond memories of Joe, including him playing his accordion in the basement of the Baier home. He was hospitable, fun, and fun-loving and brought a lot of joy into this world. Would that we could all leave such a legacy behind.

You had just moved into your new apartment and I felt privileged to have met Joe, as he was suffering at that time. Let's thank God for the extended time he had with all his family. Cousin Joe...
I said my earth good byes to you at Uncle Florian's funeral last year, and I admired your great positive outlook and sense of humour. But now I say a big hello to you in Heaven. I know you have joined all our other relatives up there and I know you are at peace and celebrating with them forever.
To all your family still on earth, I send my condolences because they will miss you so much, and they will especially miss hearing you play the accordion (just like Uncle Clem - my daddy - always did).
