Joseph Batista Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 21, 2023.
Joseph Alfred "Butch" Batista was born on January 8, 1937 and was the youngest child of John and Mary Orique/Batista of Tulare, CA, where he grew up. His older siblings, John Batista and Mary Batista/Johnson, who have preceded him in death.

He was thrice married , and was the father to 6 kids, Debra, David, Scott, Byron, Garth (who passed in 2018), and Laura. He was blessed with 8 grandchildren, Riley, Caprise, Allen, Joe, Ezra, Jalen, Trenton and Kuni and a great grandchild, Theo.

Joe was loved by everyone who knew him. He was the "nicest guy you'd ever want to meet". Not only was he kind, but also brave as he donated his time to become a volunteer firefighter for the city of Arroyo Grande. Risking his life was just second nature to him, but to him, the city was worth it. He was a real life super hero. He was also known as the Manager of the Pump Department for the San Luis Obispo County Farm Supply for decades up until his retirement where he enjoyed fishing at Lopez Lake. Joe was a master at the BBQ, and you may have been lucky enough to order one of his sandwiches from his shop, JB's Deli.

He leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews and was known by many as Papa Joe.

Joseph passed peacefully in bed, at home, with his wife Patti Christian at his side, holding his hand.
