Joseph Birkmeyer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 24, 2024.
Joseph B. Birkmeyer, known affectionately as Joe, passed away on June 26, 2024, in Yuma, Arizona, at the age of 58. Born on May 3, 1966, in Yuma, Joe spent his early years exploring various careers before discovering his passion for truck driving. He traveled extensively across the country until a severe accident in 2006 ended his driving career. Despite this setback, he's been known as the big guy in the wheel chair who was always friendly and enjoyed making people smile.

Joe helped out with the Adventist Community Services providing food and clothing to the homeless every chance he got. His efforts brought him great joy and enriched the lives of many around him.

He was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where he found spiritual fulfillment and a loving church family. His faith was an integral part of his life and provided him strength and comfort throughout his years.

Joe's family was the cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his loving mother, Bonnie (Jim) Rickabaugh, his sister, Lisa (Chuck) Hibbard, his brother, Scott (Nicole) Daniels, and his four children, Amber Birkmeyer, Jasmine (Anthony) Perry, Solomon (Alana) Birkmeyer, and Matthias Birkmeyer. Joe was also a proud grandfather to seven beautiful grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Birkmeyer, and his grandparents, Joe and Fredy Birkmeyer and Ben and Ruth Jones.

A memorial service celebrating Joe's life will be held on Thursday, August 15th at 10:00 am at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, located at 1681 S 6th Avenue, Yuma, Arizona. Following the service, an off-site private luncheon will be held for family members only.

In honor of Joe's commitment to helping others, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Adventist Community Services at the same address as the church. Joe's legacy of kindness and generosity will continue to inspire all who knew him.
