Joseph Briggs Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 11, 2024.
In Loving Memory of Joseph Ray Briggs.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Joseph Ray 'Joe' Briggs. Joe left this world too soon, surrounded by his family, at the age of 57, after a courageous and very hard-fought battle with cancer on October 20, 2023.

Joe was a devoted husband to his wife Lisa of 38 years, and a wonderful father to his three sons, a loving son to his parents, and a cherished sibling to his sisters. His untimely departure leaves a void that can never be filled, as he touched the lives of those around him with his kindness, generosity, and warm spirit.

Born on July 15, 1966, Joe was a beacon of strength and resilience throughout his life. His unwavering determination was evident in the face of his health struggles, and he faced each challenge with grace and bravery. Joe found solace in the simple joys of life, cherishing moments spent with his family and friends.

Joe graduated from Platte County R-III High School in 1984. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy as an Aviation Machinist Mate. On August 9, 1985, he married the love of his life, Lisa (Hanner) Briggs. They had three amazing sons, Joshua Ray, Brett Allen and Tyler Dale.

Anyone who knew Joe knew he was quite the character. His sense of humor was the best! He also was so smart. His knowledge would lead to many great conversations. He loved his Chiefs, Royals and Mizzou Tigers and he would give you his passionate opinion about each of these teams, good or bad. He also had a deep love for the game of golf. He had a passion for aviation and worked at Southwest Airlines where he quickly moved up the ladder to become Manager of Ramp Operations.

As a father, Joe leaves behind a legacy of love and guidance. His children, Joshua, Brett and Tyler will forever carry the lessons he imparted, and his memory will live on in the values he instilled in them. His parents, Walter Briggs and Marjorie Klimt, and sisters Shanin Milner (Doug), Dani Rockwell (Brent) and Angie Cason, are left with memories of a caring son and a supportive sibling whose presence brightened their lives. Joe leaves behind his grandson, Syrus Dale with whom he shared a special bond. Syrus always referred to him as Papa Joe and they were two peas in a pod. Syrus would always tell Joe "Papa Joe, you are my bestest friend".

Whether it was spending time with loved ones, pursuing his interests, or offering a helping hand, he approached life with a genuine and compassionate heart. If you were blessed to know Joe, you know what a wonderful character he was.

In this time of grief, we find solace in the memories we shared with Joe. His laughter, warmth, and love will forever echo in our hearts. As we mourn his passing, let us also celebrate the beautiful life he lived and the profound impact he had on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

A memorial service to honor and remember Joe will be held in the Spring and we will notify all friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the American Cancer Society.

May Joe find eternal peace, and may his memory continue to shine brightly in our hearts.

"Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed and always dear."

Since I´ve known you for 54 years, I have way too many memories to share on here! The one thing that stands out is you were always my protector. I could tick you off and you would give me a what for, but you would not allow anyone else to give me any hard time. I love and miss you so much. One day when it is my time and I join you in Heaven, I look forward to once again sitting down with you, listening to some old country, and reminisce over our many wonderful memories. Until then, please keep your protective ways over me as well as all of our loved ones! Love you bunches and thank you for being such a good big brother to me.
