Joseph U. Cardoza, Sr., 90 of Fairhaven, died at home on Monday, January 28, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of the late Harriett E. (Easley) Cardoza.

Born in New Bedford, son of the late Joseph U. Cardoso and Rosalina (Nunes), he owned and operated Cardoza Plumbing and Heating in Fairhaven until he turned it over to his son, Daniel. At which time he became the Plumbing Inspector for the City of New Bedford and later the Gas and Plumbing Inspector for Fairhaven. A lifelong resident of Fairhaven he loved being on his "farm" in Fairhaven and on Little Bay where he enjoyed fishing and quahogging. He has a passion for restoring antique cars of various makes and models and won many trophies for his efforts. He served in the Navy during WWII.

Joseph is survived by his two daughters, Patty G. Matheson and her husband, Cleveland, of Fairhaven and Donna M. Andersen and her husband, Eric, of Haines City, Fl, two sons, Daniel J. Cardoza and his wife, Nancy, of Northfield, ME, and Joseph U. Cardoza, Jr. of Fall River; his grandchildren: Kathy Pletcher, Nancy Sue Cardoza, Jessica Marnick, Lisa and Bryan Matheson, 7 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. He was the brother of the late Angelo Nunes.

Visiting Hours are on Thursday, Jan. 31 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven.
