Hey Dad, a year ago today you left us, it was the worst day of my life. I still miss you so much it hurts and visit you almost every morning. You are at peace but we are not. But rest asured that I am keeping the promise to take care of Mom. Although, i think she takes more care of me than I of her. She is the strongest woman I have ever known and is try to get throught everyday. The year of firsts is over and now we have to face 2013 with out you. I know you would not want us to grieve some much for you so I will focus on the wonder memories you gave me and try and let go of the pain. Daddo, I will always love you, always miss you and never ever forget you! Your son Joe

Well Dad this has to be the toughest year our family has ever faced. We have experienced so many first this year and everyone of them has been so painful. Mom is as sad today as the day you left us and we are all trying so hard to keep it together. I know my heart will never be the same. This week was the worst week last year . Watching you get sicker and sicker and being so helpless . I wanted so much for a miracle for you. Things will never be the same and life without you is so very empty.you will always be a very special light in my life and whenever I feel alone and sad I always seem to still try to talk to you. Like I always did. You haven't answered me but I can almost hear your voice giving me the advice that I always cherished. I love you dad and I know I told you all the time which is why I feel some comfort but I sure wish I could just see you or hear your voice again! I'm trying to watch over mom, I speak to her many times throughout the day and the kids do bring a brief smile to her face but her heart is just so broken. We miss you Dad and will forever keep your memory in our hearts. Love you always , Deena

Hey Dad - The 23rd was your birthday and I came to visit you and tell you how much I miss and love you. Time will never change that or the emptiness I feel in my heart. I knew this was going to be hard on all of us, but for me, I can't shake the off the sting. It still hurts as much today as it did the moment you left me. You told me when I was playing football “if you get hit, pick you self up and don't let anyone know that you're hurt”. Dad, I'm doing my best but its killing me not have you here. You where such a huge presents in my life and no one will ever replace you as my mentor, coach, teacher, counselor, sounding board, but most of all my Dad! I miss you, I miss our morning talks behind CW Douglas, you come over my house to fill your tires, you helping me with projects at the house, me helping you with projects at the house. Those time were so special to me but a few standout, like when we rebuild the deck on the back of the house. In the morning we worked on my algebra then it was just you and me out there all day long (well sometimes just me). I know I gave you a hard time because it was summertime but I loved every minute. Another time was when we rebuild the Mustang. We did the engine, body work and paint – including painting the inside of the garage blue! Or the time I helped you with your gigantic ugly desk. To me you were a master craftsman but that was not your best work. However, I learned some much and was one of my first exposures to furniture making. There were so many but wish I could have just one project to do with you. I can honestly said the between you and Mom I have the best parents in the world. You guys made me who I am today and I hope I made you proud. Dad, between you and Mom there will never be anyone that influenced my life more. I have always be so proud to say that you are my father and still my one true hero. Talk to you soon. I have been and always will be your son Joseph J Ciampa Jr, the Slugger

I will always miss Col. Ciampa. As anyone in the ROTC program at Quincy HIgh could agree with me that Col. Ciampa was a big influence on me and how my life went. I considered him a second father in my life to lead me in the right direction especially in my teenager high school years.. I will always miss you Col. RIP.

Hey Dad just wanted to talk to you. I miss you so very much. There isn't a person who could ever fill your shoes, no one who will ever leave a mark on this world like you did, and no better father. I wish I could just see you one more time. I just miss you so much.

I just had Col. Ciampa's obituary brought to my attention and wanted to add a comment...I was a JROTC student of his at Bethel Park HS in Pennsylvania back in the late 70s. He was a fine role model of a caring leader...I have always remembered the tactful way that he gave me some career/personal advice...I guess I was a kid in whom he saw some potential and he encouraged me to realize it. I wish there were more truly good guys like him around, it was a privilege to be his student. Condolences to his family.

My condolences to Col's family. Col was a wonderful man and was a father figure to many students in AFJROTC QHS program. He inspired and pushed many students to do their best. He always found humor in any situation and he never turned his back on us. Col is loved by many and will always be remembered. I feel blessed to have known him. God Bless you Col!

Well Dad, What can I say that so many other haven't already said. You were the best Dad, teacher, coach, and mentor guy could ever ask for – the kind of person that I always hoped to be. You showed me how to be a man. I will never forget what you taught me and promise to pass what I have learned on to my kids so that your memory will live on forever. I will miss your stories from when you were growing up in the North End, to your adventures in the USAF and beyond. Thanks for coming to all my sporting events from little league to high school and even showing up last summer to watch me play baseball. (you always knew who the best hitter in the family was) I can't begin to tell you how proud I am to have had you as my Dad and I will miss you every minute of every day and nothing will ever fill the empty spot in my heart. My one true hero! – I have been and always will be, your son. Joseph J Ciampa Jr. “the slugger”

I've been searching for words and I'm at a loss. What words can describe such an amazing person and teacher. A person who's impacted so many peoples lives.

I and like many others are a stronger and better person today b/c of Col.Ciampa. He always encouraged us to keep our heads up and keep striving for what we believe in. It's that belief in us (students) that got us to where we are all at today. Every student was special to Col. Ciampa! Col. Ciampa you are special to us former students as well and you will be greatly missed.

Thank you,Col. Ciampa!

My heart goes out to the Ciampa family.

To be able to teach kids of that age for so many yrs just goes to prove his level of patience !! He was sooooo caring !! I know he will be missed more than the regular person. I hope my son is even 1/2 the man you were Colonel !!! Thank You & We Love You !!!

Dear Mary, Johnny, Donna, Michelle, Joey and Deena:

My sincerest condolences to you all on the loss of your husband/father. Even though my last recollection of him goes back many years, I remember being in awe of him as he always seemed bigger than life, a good husband and father, mentor, and teacher. I can remember my grandmother (Zi Lina) always saying that he was "a gooda boya" when she'd reminisce about her nieces and nephews.

May God give you all peace, comfort, and solace during this very sad time, and may your memories of him always be a blessing.

Your cousin,
