JOSEPH A. COYNE

Joseph A. Coyne, 53, a New York-based playwright who lived in Hilton Head Island, SC for the past five years, died Friday, March 15, after a long illness. A graduate of Ohio State Universtiy, he received his Master's in Theater and Film from City Universtiy of New York, and has had plays produced in six states, including New York and California. Winner of four national playwrighting contests, Joseph was also a member of The Actors' Studio, where several of his plays received workshop productions. He was also a member of the Dramatists' Guild. He is survived by his parents, Joseph and Alice, who live on Hilton Head Island and four brothers: Richard of New York City, Kevin of Hilton Head Island, Keith of Dallas and Craig of Nyack. Services were held at the Hilton Head Island Funeral Home and Crematory on Sunday March 17, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Monday, March 18th at the St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church. Inurnment will be in the St. Francis Columbarium. Memorial contributions may be made to VIM Volunteers in Medicine, 15 Northridge Drive, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926. The Island Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
