Joseph Dewetter Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 23, 2025.
DeWetter, Joseph F. of Exeter, RI passed away on 11/27/24 at the age of 92.

Joseph DeWetter, Korean War veteran and lifelong Rhode Islander, was born in Providence, Rhode Island in May of 1932. He was the son of the late Hector and Mary (Roche) DeWetter.

He served in the U.S. Army during the war before returning home to a long and varied career, working at Fulford Manufacturing, Airport Taxi, and retiring from Amica Insurance.

In retirement, he found himself-perhaps reluctantly-moonlighting as an alpaca farmer on the family farm. A devoted sports fan, he rarely missed a Red Sox game and remained fiercely loyal to his favorite local restaurants, where he was always greeted by name. His years as a taxi driver gifted him with an encyclopedic knowledge of Rhode Island's roads and landmarks, which he happily shared-so long as you knew where the Almac's used to be 20 years ago.

Joseph, affectionally known as "Pa" for the later portion of his life, will be fondly remembered for his sharp wit, legendary one-liners, and unwavering sense of duty to his family.

He is predeceased by his wife, Carol (Youroski) DeWetter and his sister Alice Sagat.

He is survived by his 2 children Lisa M DeWetter (Jonathan King) and Joseph F DeWetter Jr., his 4 grandchildren Christopher (Stephanie) Whipple Jr, Caroline Whipple, Jake and Jamie DeWetter and one great grandchild, Sylvie Whipple.
