ROBBINS — Joseph "Russell" Garner, 83, of 527 Purvis Farm Road, died Friday, March 6, 2009, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 9, at Beulah Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Rev. Robert Kidd and Rev. Edsel Caviness officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Garner was a Moore County native and was a retired loom fixer from Robbins Mill. He was a member of the Goodness Sunday School class and also sang in the choir at his church.
Survivors include his wife, Uznia Caviness Garner, of the home; daughters, Diana Shields, Faye Garner, Vera Montjoy and Marilyn Garner, all of Robbins; sons, Danny Garner of Asheboro and Gregory Garner of High Point; sisters, Edna May of Burlington, Texie Garner of Carthage, and Ethelene Davis and Donarose Ritter, both of Robbins; brother, Herbert Garner of Robbins; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. tonight, Sunday, at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett.
Memorials should be directed to Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 8454 Howard Mill Road, Bennett, NC 27208.
