Joseph Haarman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 18, 2025.
Joseph (Joey) Roger Haarman, of Crawfordville, FL, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Sunday, March 16, 2025. Born on January 17, 1970, in Louisville, KY, Joey was a beloved son, father, grandfather, and friend whose spirit will forever be cherished by those who knew him.

Joey spent his early years in Louisville, Kentucky, where he grew up surrounded by family and friends. His pursuit of knowledge led him to earn a degree in Computer Science. After retiring, Joey moved to Florida, where he enjoyed the tranquility of the beach. His love for the ocean was matched only by his passion for painting, a creative outlet that brought him joy and fulfillment.

Joey was a lifelong fan of UK basketball, always cheering passionately for his team. However, above all else, his greatest pride and joy were his children and grandchildren.

Joey is survived by his mother, Patricia(Joe) Harris, his father, James(Helen) Haarman, his sisters Melissa (Danny) Blair, Stefanie Haag, and his brother Timothy (Dina) Haarman.

Joey is also survived by his beloved children: Brandi Leavell, Whitney Schott Ferguson, Meghan Schott, Blakelee Haarman, Shelby Brown, Anthony (AJ) Haarman, and Joey Haarman. Grandchildren Matthew Jr., Kinslee, Aaliyah, Noah, Hendrix, Banks, Brody and Braelynn. Joey had many nieces, nephews and greats and loved by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Though Joey has left this world, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. His legacy of kindness, love, and devotion will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Private celebration of Joey's life will be held in Crawfordville Florida and Louisville Kentucky, where family and friends will gather to honor his spirit and reflect on the beautiful moments shared.

May Joey's soul rest in eternal peace.

This picture is over 30 years ago now in my Mema's house off Mudd ln. This is my dad and my older sister Samantha. He loved her like his own! He loved to get pictures of Sophia growing up because she reminded him of baby Samantha.

We had so much fun growing up. I remember playing football in Grandma's side yard with Doug, Junior, and Mike, and having a blast! We used to sit and just listen to music for hours, and I would argue why certain songs that bugged you were actually really good. We talked about friends and you loved hearing my stories about high school in Texas! We had a pretty big family, which made the memories even better. I always looked forward to visiting my cousins and grandparents every summer in the years we weren't living up in the Louisville area. It was awesome when we did live close together, though! We were only 7 weeks apart, and we were more like siblings sometimes. We didn't always get along, but we always found our way back to being friends again. Our passion for Kentucky basketball, good music, good food, and family memories always gave us plenty of material to work with as adults, too. I wish I could give you one more hug and tell you that I love you. You're with Jesus and Daddy now, so you can talk about Kentucky basketball again. Daddy was their biggest fan, and everyone knows Jesus is a Kentucky fan! I love you, cuz. And I will miss you, always...

When I met Joe I did not know what to expect. I quickly found out who he was in the few times we got to spend together by the fact that every the he came to visit, my face hurt by the time he left from laughing so much. He would spend so much time with Matthew Jr, playing with toys or doing whatever Matthew asked of him, that we would almost forget he was there at times.
We got to spend a Thanksgiving together which was a modest meal but you would've thought I slaved in the kitchen for a week with how grateful he was for the meal. Joe no matter what you shared with him, whether it be a meal, a story, or a project you've been working on he always made you feel good about yourself. Truly a great guy, Brandi, Matthew Jr and I will never forget the laughs we shared and the love we felt. Rest in peace Papa Joe.
