Joseph Jakobowski

Joseph E. Jakobowski, 58, of Southwick, died suddenly on Friday, September 25th, surrounded by his family. He was born in Stafford Springs, CT on March 10, 1957 to the late Frances (Wolodko) Mylek and Stanley Jakobowski. Joe attended Holyoke Community College and also attended Boston Architectural College, where he studied and taught architecture. He lived in Enfield, CT, Boston, MA, Southwick, MA, and most recently Springfield, MA, where he served as the treasurer on the Board of Directors for Kimball Towers. In his spare time, Joe was an avid baker, cook and enjoyed sunbathing, and going for long drives He looked forward every year to going to the NYC auto Show and also enjoyed spending time with his family. He also found joy in helping others with various tasks, from fixing computers to helping with yardwork. His artistic side led him to architectural school, which resulted in designing various buildings throughout Boston and the surrounding areas. He was the co-owner of Jake Enterprises of Southwick, and recently was employed at Springfield Florist Supply. Joe is survived by one sister, Diana Baldyga and her husband Mark of Westfield, four brothers, Stanley of Southwick, Thomas and his wife Judith of Springfield, Richard “Biggs” and his wife Diane of Westfield, and Alphonse and his girlfriend Michelina of Southwick. He also leaves his nephew, Edward Jakobowski, his wife Heaney and their son Thomas. He leaves four nieces, Miranda Berube and her husband Michael, Heather L. Baldyga, Melissa Baldyga, her fiancée Christopher Gibbs and their daughter Bailey, and Rachel Larkin. He was raised by a special mother, the late Helen Otis. He leaves behind a special aunt, Lorraine Dailey, and his beloved cousin, Laurie Spruill. He also leaves behind his step-mother Ludi Jakobowski, and two step-sisters, Constance Slawecki and her husband Jerry of Maryland, and Jackie Hebert and her husband Rudy of Montgomery. Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 9th at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Home, located at 76 Broad St., Westfield from 4pm until 7pm. A celebration of his life will be private.
