Joseph "Joe" T. Johnston

Zanesville - Joseph "Joe" T. Johnston, 68 of Zanesville, died 1:25 PM, Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at his home with his wife by his side. He was born Friday, September 5, 1952, in Zanesville, the son of William E. Johnston and Margaret E. (Lustig) Johnston. He married Deborah (Swierz) Johnston on Saturday, October 27, 1984, and was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.

Joe was a graduate of Bishop Rosecrans High School and a dedicated attendee of all the Rosecrans Basketball games, and was a Notre Dame Fan. He was employed with Big Bear, Good Samaritan Hospital and retired from Giacomo's Deli. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 505..

Joe is survived by his wife; Debbie; one brother: Steven J. Johnston; one sister: Anita Zeihen; four brothers-in-law: Gary (Terri) Swierz, E.J. (Becky) Swierz, Alan Swierz and Denis Swierz; one sister-in-law: Kathleen (David) Schmid; several nieces and nephews and two best friends who he considered as brothers: John Fisher and Mike Schramm.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by two brothers: William L. Johnston and infant twin brother: Jeffery Johnston.

Debbie would like to thank the staff of Shriver's Hospice and Wound Care Nurses, Vesta Dalton and Sara Eck for two great years of care and friendship they gave to Joe.

Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, where a Christian Vigil will be held at 6:45 PM. Due to ongoing construction at St. Thomas, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 925 East Main Street, Zanesville, with Fr. Jan C.P. Sullivan as Celebrant. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Bishop Rosecrans Athletic Association, 1040 East Main Street, Zanesville or St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 144 North Fifth Street, Zanesville, Ohio 43701 in Joe's memory.
