Joseph Robin Kilmer
April 3, 1974 – June 22, 2017
Resident of San Jose
Devoted Father. Beloved Husband. Loving Son. Cherished Brother. Loyal Friend. Dependable Colleague. These are just a few of the roles Joe Kilmer played in his short but tremendously impactful life. Each person Joe touched was better for having known him.
Joe was born on April 3, 1974 in Aurora, Colorado, and unexpectedly called to be with the Lord on June 22, 2017 in San Jose. Joe had a unique and universal way of capturing the hearts of those he encountered. He made people feel welcomed, appreciated, and loved.
In July 2015, Joe married his adoring wife Dori Yob Kilmer and together they have cherished their time as a family with Joe's daughter, Isabella. From the moment his daughter, Isabella entered his life in 2009, Joe's priority was to love, support, nurture, and raise a caring, strong, independent young woman. Isabella is a testament to Joe and will continue to reflect his influence throughout her life. Joe loved being her daddy.
Joe graduated from Lynbrook High School in 1992. He attended San Diego State University where he was active in Theta Chi Fraternity (Gamma Theta chapter), and he graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in communications. Joe later obtained a master's degree in integrated marketing communications from West Virginia University. Throughout his adult life, Joe pursued knowledge and loved learning new things.
Joe had a twenty-year career in public relations and marketing in Silicon Valley. He was most recently employed by BAE Systems in San Jose and loved working in the defense industry. Throughout much of his career he also maintained a real estate license. Joe enjoyed following the ever-changing market and helping his friends and clients make informed decisions about their homes.
Joe is preceded in death by his twin baby boys who were prematurely born on May 17, 2017. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Dori; his cherished eight-year-old daughter Isabella who was the center of his world; parents, Chuck and Dee; brother Anthony (Christina), sister Denise Yarbrough (Rick); nieces, Sierra, Haili, Chiara, and Ainsley; nephew Cameron; and numerous extended family members and dear friends.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Christopher Church (2278 Booksin Avenue, San Jose) on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Joe's wife Dori asks that friends and family contribute to an account to help fund Isabella's college education in Joe's memory:

Everything Joe did, he did with all of his heart and we will miss him deeply with all of ours.

Joe was my best friend and like a brother to me for 30 plus years..I still cannot believe I don't get to talk movies, music, and life with him any more. He is truly an amazing soul and impacted my life in the most positive ways by showing me how to have fun and love life and live that life with integrity and honor. My heart and prayers goes out to Chuck, Dee, Tony, Dori, and Isabella...I will continue to let Joe's spirit guide and influence me and live my life the way Joe would have wanted.

I knew Joe in Jr. High and High School. Though we were never close friends, his smile, friendly attitude, and fun-loving spirit were hard to miss. It seems he turned into a wonderful man, father and husband. I was so sad to hear of his passing and live local enough to attend his service. It was a beautiful tribute to his life. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.

Joe was a close friend of my children, Scott, Kristy and Amy Schneider. I coached Joe on my son's 13 year old team for Cupertino American on Miller Field. I'll always remember him with having a smile on his face and a great attitude all the time. It was such a pleasure to have him on our team. My wife and I are so sorry for Joe's death and offer our sincere condolences to all of his family.
Sincerely,

David and Jeannie Schneider

Joe was an amazing man. He was a great father and always was there for his daughter, even volunteering in her classroom.
I'm so sorry I couldn't be at the service. I was at the Westminster Abbey today and lit and candle and filled out a prayer card for him and the family.
