Joseph Paul Leonard, 66, formerly of York, died Friday, October 13, 2006, at his home from a lingering illness. He was under the care of Hospice Alliance. He was born February 26, 1940, in Everett, Pa., to Charles Delbert Leonard and Rosa Annis Weicht Leonard. He attended schools in Everett and Alum Bank, Pa., graduating from Chestnut Ridge High School in Fishertown, Pa. in 1959. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Machinist aboard the USS Enterprise from 1961 to 1963. While aboard the Enterprise, Joe made some life long friends who he continued to see at the Enterprise reunions. He married Judith Ann Rhoades December 14, 1964, in Winchester, Va. and to this union two daughters, Karen and Jody, were born. He worked as Tool Room Supervisor for Caterpillar, Inc. in York, from which he retired in 1998. The family moved to Idaho Falls in 1999. Joe enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and took delight in his four grandchildren, Ethan, Jenna, Catherine and Caroline. Joe traveled extensively within the United States. He enjoyed hunting in Pennsylvania with his family and close friends. He took great pride in his lawn and rose beds. He will be remembered for his dry wit and ready smile. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hospice Alliance of Idaho Falls; or the American Cancer Society, 2676 Vista Avenue, Boise, ID 83705.
