Joseph Loftis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 23, 2025.
Joseph Michael "Joby" Loftis, born on March 12, 1941, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on February 22, 2025. He was 83 years old.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Joe was a proud alumnus of St. Vincent College and Duquesne University, where he cultivated a lifelong passion for learning. His professional journey led him to a distinguished tenure as Vice President and General Manager at Ionics, Inc. in Bridgeville, where his leadership and dedication left an indelible mark.

Beyond his professional achievements, Joe was a man of diverse talents and interests. An avid reader and accomplished author, he found joy in the written word. His exceptional gift as a pianist brought comfort and delight to many, often filling his home with melodies that resonated with his generous spirit.

Joe is survived by his devoted wife, Barb; his cherished children, Megan, Joe, Kevin, and Wendy; and eight beloved grandchildren, Morgan, Ryan, Janey, Ashley, Kendall, Kacy, Ellie, and Liam. His family was his pride and joy, and he relished every moment spent in their company.

A private memorial service will be held to honor Joe's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of one's choice in Joe's memory.

Joe's warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

I feel a deep loss as I learn of your passing dear friend. Our earliest years were spent riding tricycles in the 3Rd floor halls of the Weaver Apt. Bldg. in Ligonier. We grew up together and stayed connected through all these 80 + years. My thoughts and prayers are with Barb and the family.
I will miss you dearly old friend,

Joe and Barbie taught Ginny( Barb´s sister) , Maribeth, Janet ( another sister) and myself how to play bridge. Joe could read the news paper and teach all four of us at the same time !! This could be 50 years ago. What a good time and such laughter! Wish I had a photo.

Joe has been in the Loeffler family for over 50 years, but I got to know him better during the time he and I were both trustees of the Loeffler Cottage club. He was great to work with and always had good ideas on how best to preserve our shared family legacy. He will be missed.
