Joseph Frederic Auguste "Gus" Lorber Jr.

LORBER Joseph Frederic Auguste "Gus" Lorber, Jr. passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2009. He was born August 10, 1919, in New Orleans, Louisiana, the beloved only child of Joseph Frederic Auguste Lorber, also of New Orleans and Helen May Ittner of St. Louis. He was predeceased by his first wife, Janet June Jones of New Orleans who died in 1980, and is survived by his children Nancy Lorber Fink (Buddy), Randy Lorber Stephens (Don), and Gus Lorber III (Ginny), and Michael Lorber. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Elizabeth (Lise) Kerrigan Kuebel Lorber, and her children Connie Kuebel Robin (Randy), Conrad M. Kuebel, Jr. (Janie), Sheila Kuebel Bartosic, Elizabeth Kuebel Collins (Charles), Mary Lucy Kuebel Lane (David), and Laine Kuebel Kilburn (Scott). He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Nicolle Cundiff (David), Helen Plaugher (Dave), Janet Stegner (Phillip), Stacy Fink, Gregory Fink (Jennifer), Jean Lorber (Anne), Taylor Lorber, and step grandchildren Christopher, Kerrigan and Hunter Robin, Kelly, Conrad III and Sara Kuebel, Elizabeth and Tommy Bartosic, Malise, Charles, Conrad, Sean and Graham Collins, Merrick, William and Christopher Lane, Parks and Galen Kilburn and his great grandchildren, Patrick Cundiff, Carter Cundiff, Spencer Fink, Alexandria Fink, Peter Fink and Joseph Lorber. A life long enthusiast of sailing, his love of boats began at an early age. As a student, Gus helped to found the Tulane sailing club. After graduation from the Tulane School of Business, where he was president of DKE Fraternity, he entered the U.S. Navy and fought WWII in the Pacific aboard PCE 872 as their navigator. Wherever he traveled, there was always someone he could call from his war and sailing acquaintances. After the war, he spent his career with the Jackson Brewery, sailing every weekend, or building boats for his children. He was Commodore of the Southern Yacht Club in 1964-65, and enjoyed a large circle of friends who all shared the common interest-love of wind and water. Gus and Lise moved to Pass Christian where he could be closer to the water and boats. He began building model boats for friends and relatives and over the course of 30 years, built about 200 scale and full size models. Funeral Services will be Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the Holy Family Church, 22342 Evangeline Drive, Pass Christian, Mississippi. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am with Episcopal Services following at 11:00 am. Burial will be 11:00 am Monday at Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Light House Restoration Fund in New Orleans, Louisiana or the Trinity Episcopal Rebuilding Fund in Pass Christian, Mississippi.
