Formerly of Moon Twp., passed away August 10, 2018, at Allegheny General Hospital. He was born in Osceola Mills PA December 3, 1921, to the late Catherine Loftus and Francis Mackin. Joseph was an Army veteran during WWII serving in the China Burma India Theater of Operations receiving the CBI medal. He then graduated from Duquesne University with a BS/BA in 1947. Joseph worked in sales as an Accountant, he retired in 1987 as Manager Internal Sales. He was president of the Duquesne University Alumni Association, Cleveland Chapter 1995. He pursued Editorials and Historical War Stories, and was also a member of St. Margaret Mary Church. He is survived by his wife, Olga Duker Mackin, they were united in marriage on July 1, 1961; a sister, Jane Gobbie of Belle Vernon; also nieces and nephews survive. He was also predeceased by two brothers, James and John Mackin. Friends will be received at COPELAND MOON TWP. FUNERAL HOME, 981 Brodhead Rd. Thursday 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. where prayers will be recited at 11:30 a.m. followed by a 12 p.m. Mass of Christian burial in St. Margaret Mary Church with Father Sean Francis Celebrant and Mr. Mackin's brother-in-law, Monsignor Russell Duker Concelebrating. Entombment will follow in Holy Savior Cemetery Gibsonia with full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Joseph B. Mackin's name to the BYZANTINE RITE SEMINARIAN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FUND, a scholarship that he and his wife funded and originated, at DUQUESNE UNIVERSITY, Office of University Advancement, Attention: Mary Francis Dean, 600 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15282.

I was blessed to meet Joe in June when I listed his townhome. I found out that he and my Father John Russell were good buddies in college. It was so special to meet such a nice man. He touched my heart and may God rest his soul. My sympathy to the family.
