Hi Joe, today would be your 68th birthday and always on this day my thoughts turn to you. Of course I would love to just pick up the phone and just call you. You have been on my mind so much lately as we our 50th High School reunion is in September I´m not sure I´m ready to attend it without you, but I know you will be present as you left your mark on all our high school memories. I miss you Joey.

I was so shocked to hear about Dr Maguires passing. He saved my eye site and joked around while doing it. I am so sorry for his daughters to lose their Dad so young. He has a place in many lives and he will never be forgotten. I´m just so sad

Please accept our heartfelt condolences on the loss of Joe and Patty. I first met Joe around 1986 when i started my dental career at an office in Abington. Dr. Joyce, his wife Alyce and their wonderful daughters Patty, Ellen and Julie were all patients. I then met Joe and immediately had a great connection. I felt like i was with an old high school buddy, college friend, fraternity brother, etc. all within such a short period of time. His charisma and personality was so magnetic that anyone who would have come in contact with him would have had such a wonderful impression of him, especially his patients friends and family. After i left that office and started my own practice i lost touch with Joe. However as the years progressed i would reach out to him a handful of times for ophthalmic advice and he would graciously respond with help. Up till early november of 2018 i called him regarding a hockey injury my nephew sustained and once again he helped. He evaluated his situation and gave his valuable advice. 30 years later with minimal contact he was there to help me. I just heard several days ago of the news from a ophthalmologist i met . I am so saddened by this. My memories have stayed alive for over 30 years of Joe and Patty and ill always remember him and his family in such a wonderful way. God bless Joe, Patty his daughters and family.

I trained with Dr. Maguire at Wills Eye Hospital during my optometry residency in 2008. I have fond memories of spending time with him in clinic and always remember his kind demeanor. He was amazing with his patients and he was an excellent teacher. I decided to google him and was shocked to find out about his passing. I am glad I got learn under Dr. Maguire and he will live in my memory forever. R.I.P

I am in shock and truly saddened! I knew Dr. Maguire was on leave and for some reason decided to "google" him to see if he was back to his practice. I can't believe his obituary came up instead! He treated me for 16 years for a retinal problem and actually also diagnosed my having Lyme disease the first time I met him. Amazing! I loved that when he traveled and read he said he always had a dictionary with him to look up words he didn't know. What a tremendous loss for us here, but a wonderful addition to heaven reuniting with his late wife who I just learned passed also. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends. So, so sad...

I'm sorry to hear of his passing. I was one of his patients who who deeply admired his skills and his professionalism. His kindness and gentile nature made him a unique and caring doctor. I always prayed for him when he was on leave of his practice, I truely miss him.

Heart broken to hear about doctor Maguire - taken too young. I was a patient of his at Moorfields London in the early 90s. As well as an amazing eye doctor he was an incredibly caring and supportive gentleman. So privileged to have known him. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

I am so sad to just learn of Dr. Maquire's passing today when I called to schedule an appointment. Dr. Maquire treated my father and also me. He was the kindest and most compassionate doctor I have ever met. He was patient with my father who has Alzheimer's and took time to answer my many questions whenever we were at the office. His office was extremely busy, however, Dr. Maguire never made us feel rushed. May he rest in peace and my deepest condolences for his family and friends.

I am sad to learn today of Joe's Passing. As a fellow Ophthalmologist in South Jersey he was always available to discuss a complicated patient by phone and would always go out of his way to accommodate them onto an already busy schedule for the day. No questions was too simple for him to take the time to return a call.I knew my patient's were in the best of hands with him. We have a home in Stillwater, PA. I met a Gynecologist who used to take Dr. Maguire trout fishing on Fishing Creek wen he was a child and how he fell in the creek on first day of trout season. He told me to call him Joey when I saw him again. When Dr. Maguires back was turned I addressed him as Joey. He sheepishly turned around and immediately knew where I heard it from. It made his day as I shared the story. What a shock when we heard Dr. "Joey" Maguire passed. He was such a good man and greatest retina surgeon. He operated on my wife three times when her retina was skewered by glass. He will be dearly missed by all.

We are so saddened to hear of Dr. Maguire's passing. He has been treating our son for many years due to a rare condition that began at age 15. Words do not truly capture the compassionate care he took with our son, guiding us through, no amount of questions or phone calls were too many, and we managed to even have a few laughs along the way. What an immeasurable gift to not only treat illness, but to help heal and understand the emotions that go along with. Not only was he a brilliant Doctor but his personality was exceptional! His educational background was second to none. In talking to other Doctors they said he was an educator to members of his profession. His personality and humor were extremely good. One of the nicest people I knew. He will be missed!

I am so sad Dr. Maguire has died. I know him as my daughter's doctor. He saved her vision after she was diagnosed with a serious retinal disease. He left no stone unturned in being vigilant about monitoring her condition and response to treatment. And even though she was only 14 when diagnosed, he talked directly to her, rather than to me, which she loved. She adored him as a doctor, and he made her feel safe as she dealt with a problem that threatened her vision. As a mom, I was completely at ease knowing that Dr. Maguire was caring for her. Dr. Maguire bettered so many people's lives - he deserved to have longer one, himself. I feel terrible for his daughters, whom he spoke of lovingly.

Ive had the pleasure of working with you for the past 2 yrs and it feels like so much longer. You truly were the greatest human being and I dont think we will be blessed with a kinder soul. You made coming to work easy and we always made sure we came in with a smile and had your Mounds bar on your desk to greet you for your yogurt time!! To the family of Dr. Maguire, My deepest and most heartfelt condolences, particularly to his daughters. Dr. Maguire performed three surgeries on my son when he was blinded in one eye in an assault. Dr. Maguire has been a pillar of strength and support to me and my son these past eight years. What a fine, brilliant, and gentle man. No matter how many patients were in his office, he arrived calmly and gave us all the time we needed. He has impacted us forever. We simply don't know how to proceed without him.

I am a long time patient of Dr Maguire, referred by L. Jay Katz, MD from Wills Eye. I asked Dr Katz how I would recognize Dr Maguire. " He's the handsomest man in the room", said Dr Katz. He wasn't kidding. I told Dr Joe when I met him and the entire waiting room agreed. I am shocked and sadden by his death but remain grateful for the wonderful, kind and professional care. That beautiful person, inside and out, will be missed.
