JOSEPH JOSHUA “BIG JOE” MARTINEZ OF RATON, NM, DIED ON JANUARY 2, 2023, AT THE AGE OF 60 PEACEFULLY AT HOME.
JOSEPH WAS BORN JANUARY 3, 1962, IN RATON NM TO ARTHUR MARTINEZ AND DORA TRUJILLO.
HE GREW UP IN CIMARRON, NM WHERE HE GAINED MANY FRIENDS THERE. ALONG WITH HIS MANY FRIENDS IN CIMARRON, HE BECAME FAMILY WITH THE FRIENDS HE MADE IN RATON. JOSEPH HAD SO MANY FRIENDS THAT HE HAD A NICKNAME EVERYWHERE HE WENT. THOSE NICKNAMES INCLUDE HOSA; GILLIGAN; JOE SIX FINGERS; JOE LENO AND CHEVY JOE.
JOSEPH LOVED MANY THINGS IN LIFE. JOSEPH LOVED TO GO FISHING AND HE LOOKED FORWARD TO GOING WITH HIS FRIENDS EVERY CHANCE HE GOT. WHEN HE WASN’T ABLE TO GO FISHING, HE LOVED TO WATCH THE HORSE RACES AND COULD PICK THE WINNER EVERY TIME. JOSEPH ALSO LOVED FOOTBALL AND CHEERED FOR HIS CHIEFS EVERY SUNDAY. OF ALL THE THINGS HE LOVED IN HIS LIFE HE LOVED HIS CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN THE MOST.
JOSEPH IS PRECEEDED IN DEATH BY HIS FATHER; ARTHUR MARTINEZ; HIS MOTHER DORA TRUJILLO; BROTHER ARTHUR MARTINEZ; AND NUMEROUS FRIENDS THAT HE LOVED VERY MUCH.
JOSEPH IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE TINA MARTINEZ. HIS DAUGHTER JOLENE MARTINEZ AND HER 3 SONS. HIS SON JOSEPH MARTINEZ JR HIS WIFE BONNIE AND THEIR 3 SONS. HIS SON MICHAEL MARTINEZ AND HIS SPOUSE TYANA AND THEIR 3 SONS AND 2 DAUGHTERS. HIS SON GABRIEL MARTINEZ AND HIS PARTNER EVELIA, JOSEPH IS ALSO SURVIVED BY ONE BROTHER MICHAEL MARTINEZ AND ONE SISTER SHIELA TAFOYA. HE IS ALSO SURVIVED BY MANY FAMILY AND FRIENDS THAT LOVE HIM VERY MUCH.
Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary will be on March 31, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Patrick's/St. Joseph's Catholic Church followed by The Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 A.M. with Fr. Bill Woytavich as the Celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Fairmont Cemetery.
Arrangements for Joseph Martinez are under the direction of the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home.
