He was born Jan. 17, 1925, in Philadelphia, a son of the late Arthur and Veronica Keating McGlinn. He was married to the former Betty Bucher.
He was a 1943 graduate of Sunbury High School and attended Louisiana State University for two years.
He was employed by The Danville News and The News-Item, Shamokin, in various positions, working at each newspaper for more than 18 years and became editor of both papers.
Mr. McGlinn served in the Army during World War II in Company B 394th Infantry Division in Europe. He was in the Army for 13 years, later remaining overseas in the criminal investigation unit after the war.
Joe served as Montour County director of veterans affairs for seven years and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 298, the Friendship and East End fire companies, all in Danville, and was a life member of the Sunbury Social Club.
He was a member of the Montour County Housing Authority, served as an organizer for the Danville Community Park series and was one of the founding members of the Danville Halloween parade more than 37 years ago.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Danville.
Joe loved music and was very active with the Danville Community Band. He loved his community and gave of himself freely and generously.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 46 years, are his stepdaughter and her husband, Mary Ellen and James Crawford of Bloomsburg; his stepson and his wife, Gerald and Janice Naugle of Chalfont; stepgrandchildren, Michael Snyder, Karl and Robert Beierschmitt, Craig and Christopher Naugle, and Shelby Fox; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha and William Neitz and Patricia and Clyde Sprenkel, all of Sunbury; and one brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Janet McGlinn of Sunbury.
He was preceded in death by one stepdaughter, Deborah Smith; his stepgreat-grandson, Christian Snyder; and seven brothers and sisters.
Visitors may call from 8:30 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday in St. Hubert's Chapel at St. Joseph Church, 18 E. Center St., Danville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church by the Rev. William Weary, his pastor.
Burial will be in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Danville Community Band, P.O. Box 345, Danville, PA 17821.
Arrangements are being handled by the Brady Funeral Home Inc., 320 Church St., Danville.
