It has been some time since I was blessed to be around and care for Joseph. I hold fond memories of him and his wonderful family deeply in my heart. The lessons of life and the joyous humor Joseph shared with me are eternally bound in me.
I love you Coach!

The world has lost one of the greats! I carry so many memories of Joe with me. I still ask my students if they " walked to school or carried their lunch!" He was one in a million and I am so sorry for your loss.

Dear Mrkonich family,
My sincere condolences.
I enjoy fond memories of Mr. Mrkonich. Between home room, History, and football I spent a lot of time with Coach my senior year at Duluth East ('68). He was the perfect blend of tough guy and teddy bear that made working for him fun and learning from him a great experience.

Growing up in Thief River Falls I had the honor of having Mr Mrkonich as a teacher and as a coach. I really liked and respected him, he was always there for me when I needed him. He will be missed.

Arlene, Marco, Betty and Kathryn: I am so sorry for your loss. Coach has been a big infuence in my life and will be dearly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him. I was lucky, as I not only knew Joe as a player in high school, but also knew him as a close friend after high school. He was my coach, mentor and good friend. God Bless all of you.

Mr. Mrkonich was my B-squad basketball and varsity football coach, and my senior social studies teacher. We argued and kidded each other a lot, but it was the way we showed affection for each other. He was a good man, a great coach, and a good and reliable friend. I willl miss him.

I had the honor of getting to know Joe and providing care to him the last few months. He made a huge impact on me in that short period of time. I am certain I was 1 of many to experience the effect he had on others.

I'm glad I was able to spend some quality time with him a few months ago.
