Another year has gone by without Joe Muza in it. I pray his family’s grieving has transformed into wonderful memories of their life with this unusually wonderful man. May God hold him as highly as his family and friends.

On the anniversary of this great mans passing, I fondly reminisce of his Gentle Giant way of leading a bunch us labor oafs. He is greatly missed by those who knew him, and heartbroken to those who had the honor of calling him a friend. May the memories of his life continue to creep into our minds to bring us smiles of comfort us in his absence.

I had the honor of working for Joe Muza at the LTV Hazelwood plant for a few years prior to its closing and the privilege of calling him a friend. They don’t make them like Joe these days and he will be missed by many

My Uncle Joe was always available to help me at my business when i was swamped. he would show up work, never stopping for anything and quietly leave when all was completed. after they moved to Fl. he would call and check in just to see how i was doing. I'll miss him stopping in just to chat on his way to Home Depot to pick up supplies for another project he was working on
He was a man's man strong, gentle and always helping

Miss you Pap I learned more from you than anyone in my adult life! I'll never forget your constant willingness to lend a helping hand and never quit attitude.
Most of all, I'll remember your stories and matter-of-fact approach to everything:
Favorite Story: Kids today have it easy with all the phones, laptops, etc. We didn't have much of anything, so we had to be inventive/resourceful. We'd play stick ball with old tree limb and a rock. The hotter the day the better because the asphalt was made from tar. As the road heated up, the tar would soften and small pools would form. We'd just grab some it and roll it around in our hands to form a ball and then chew it like bubblegum.
Tellin' it like it is: First family picnic, just started dating Rose and playing a friendly game of backyard volleyball. After my one-handed spike for the point, Pap and I got into a little debate on the rules of "pick-up volleyball". Pap landed the dismount with this little gem: Hey Buddy, I'm not asking you what you think, I'm asking you what you KNOW! Debate OVER - Joe Wins!
Tough as nails: On too many occasions, Joe had a propensity for displaying a pain tolerance that seemed super-human. Over the 23 years I knew him, I witnessed many times a hammer meeting a thumb with a force that created an instant bruise. He would just move his hand and keep on hammering. Umm...Pap, how's the thumb feeling? What? Come on Art, Get me another 2X4. Okay...never mind. Or countless times seeing him coming in from the yard with streams of blood running down his arm or leg from cuts that went unnoticed. Hey Pap, what happened to your arm/leg? What? Oh, I must have scraped it. It'll be fine. Okay...never mind.
I could go on forever!
You were a one-of-a-kind, great man Joe, who provided many life-lessons to everyone you met; especially to me, Rose and your granddaughters, Sophia and Lydia. I will keep you in my heart, thoughts and prayers for eternity.
Love,
Art
