Joe and I go back to 1983 when we worked at WPTV, the NBC affiliate in West Palm Beach. We worked together doing all types of television commercials, mostly during the afternoons. It got to the point where we didn't have to say much, we knew what each other was thinking. The clients were always a bit fuzzy as to how we had communicated since we didn't say much to each other a lot of the time. I remember one day when we had been working on a commercial for quite some time and I goofed up an edit. Joe was calm, took it in stride, and we corrected the mistake however that's how our sessions always went...calm and cool. One thing Joe was great about was that he'd always be open to ideas and never hesitated to use suggestions. I always thought Joe was very creative and talented however he always stayed humble and had a great sense of humor.
Joe and I also did a weekly show about the Miami Dolphins from Joe Rose's place in Boca. We had a great time and although Joe was directing it, he'd pitch in and help us set up without any hesitation. Joe was a team guy and always had the quality of our productions as the main goal, even if we had to do it over and over again. He would not settle for okay, it had to be perfect....even though I did try to get him to call it a wrap a few times when we'd been working on a project for hours but he maintained getting it right always.
Friday nights, after the 11pm news, when WPTV was still on Flagler Drive, a bunch of us would walk down to Bradleys to have a couple of drinks and unwind. I'll never forget those times...they were great. Joe would be there and everyone would have a great time talking about work. It's funny, we'd go there to get away from work but when we got there, work was usually the main topic.
There are lots and lots more memories about working and having fun with Joe. Joe will always be with me in my heart and mind. As I eventually join Joe in the next step of my journey....I can only look forward to that great Channel 5 party we'll have.
Joe, I miss you brother. See you in the not too distant future.

I´m at a lost of words. May God bless our medical field to find a cure for cancer.
Who would of ever thought you would leave us like your brother from another mother Mark Smallridge. I know you 2 are parting like it´s 1979. Like Mark of his sudden passing. From your JIL Hi family, church & immediate family you were blessed & a positive inspiration. I am blessed to have been a part of your life and to of have you as my first boyfriend/love. It brings comfort to know you lived life to you and what brought you joy. We will miss you on earth but look forward to reconnecting but until than. Keep the music flowing in heaven.

Our condolences and sympathy goes out to his family. Joey was a staple of my life on Sun103, providing fishing reports, local promotions, and all things Fla Keys. You will be missed my friend. Rest easy.

"Pop" Naples, Danny & Vicki, and family: I am so shocked and sad to hear of Joe´s passing. Joe and my brother, Mark, were inseparable as "kids", really teenagers and beyond. Living only one street away, our entire families were friends. (I still remember disco dancing with the family and friends at a party at the Naples home after our high school graduation- circa 1978!) It´s been a while since we have seen one another but Joe and the Naples family will always hold a special place in my heart. I know Joe and Mark have reunited in heaven and are probably fishing and laughing together. Please accept my sincere condolences. Joe will be missed but I will always remember his radiant smiling face. Sending prayers for comfort in this very difficult time.

I CAME TO WORK AT WPTV IN '92. I DIDNT TAKE ANY COURSES FOR PRODUCTION AND KNEW NOTHING ABOUT TV AND JOE NAPLES TOOK ME UNDER HIS AMAZING WING AND TAUGHT ME SO VERY MUCH ABOUT EVERY SINGLE ASPECT OF TV PRODUCTION! HE ALSO SHOWED ME INCREDIBLE RESPECT ,STICKING UP FOR ME ON MANY OCCASIONS AND ALWAYS HAVING MY BACK. HE WAS A HUGE INFLUENCE IN MY 30 YEAR AND STILL COUNTING TV CAREER HELPING ME BECOME A TV DIRECTOR!

OUTSIDE OF WORK HE ALWAYS TOOK INTEREST IN MY HOBBIES AND WE SHARED A PASSION FOR COWBOY BOOTS AND HE WOULD ALSO INVITE US TO HIS HOUSE FOR SOME EPIC TIMES!

HE WAS A WONDERFUL MENTOR AN INCREDIBLE FRIEND AND WILL BE MISSED SO MUCH!

I am trying to hold back the tears as I sit down to write this my brother. You and I go way back...from high school through marriages, divorces - good times and bad times. Laughing, crying and living. We shared life, times, highs and lows. We were best of friends for decades and did so much of life together - we saw a lot - we did a lot and we lived at our own pace. Years have passed since you and I last saw each other - but we tried to stay in contact over FB and a text here or there. You and I traveled a lot of roads together my friend- know that you will be missed. We broke a lot of hearts along the way and had ours broken too. Our friendship always was the constant that we leaned on when we needed it most. I send this out to the many friends and family you are leaving behind - my thoughts and prayers are with them all. Bud - know that your Spirit will live in our hearts forever. GODSPEED my friend - rest easy Joe - the hard part is behind you now my brother - only Peace lies ahead.
