On this anniversary I tip my hat to Joe. Few were as kind to me during our work together, and none as stubborn! He took me under his wing and shared so much about living the program. Got me to look at parts of myself that I didn't want to embrace. He did that for countless numbers of our patients. Matter of fact and down to earth and like a bull dog tugging at your pant leg! He was one of a kind. Am sure heaven has never been the same since he arrived!

So good to remember Joe. He worked with me at St. Francis and was quite a character. We laughed a lot as he had such a good sense of humor. And he is responsible for me learning invaluable information about the12 Step Programs and was a burr under my saddle to check one out that he though would be good for me. He was right and I will be forever grateful to him. Joe had such a good soul and I hope he is up in Heaven stirring up some fun for everyone. God bless you Joe. And to you family, I hope your memories are now sweet and that you have peace.

Diana, I just found out that Joe is now in the big meeting in the sky. I know he is loving it, as he did all of life when he was with us. He saved my sanity in the beginning of my recovery. He was building shelves in our closet when a salesman was in our living room. He kept asking me if I wanted him to take care of that guy. He was a great friend with a wonderful zest for life that was a great example for many including me. Thank you for sharing him with us. I know you will miss him. I am grateful to have known him. May God soften your sadness. You and your family will be in my prayers. Love, Jan

Dear Diane,

Cheryl and I remember Joe with fondness when we reflect on the many Bluestone Roundups we've been priviledged to share with so many over the years, and we're saddened by the news of his passing. May God bless you and bring you peace and rest. We're thinking of you here at Bluestone.

Joe was one of the "dependable rocks" that I met over 12 years ago when I became a friend of Bill W. A gentleman I sort of adopted as a grandad (Bill Miller) originally introduced us and I knew immediately that Joe was one of the good guys, as Bill was very selective about who he guided me to. I will miss seeing him (always it seemed in places I didn't expect to) as he brightened my day on a regular basis. I was privilaged to have known him.

To the Newport Family, I meet Joe while working with him at St Francis. In the short time that I knew him, I came to love and respect him for his kind, gentle and humorous wisdom. He always got me to open up when I was having problems. I never left him without feeling great. He always shared so much of himself and his knowledge with others. The world has loss a truely wonderful man. My deepest sympathies to you all.

Diane and family -

There are few like Joe - he had time for everyone and with grit and persistence and a lot of love he has been instrumental in helping countless people change their lives - I am one of them. He taught me so much about 12 step living in my early days as a counselor -he said if I was going work with the friends of Bill W., I had better be sure I understood very well what their lives and their recovery were about - because of his persistence and patience with me, his wonderful sense of humor and his endless desire to give what he was blessed to have, I was able to grow into what he hoped I would become in my work. And on top of that, he lead me to my own participation in 12 step recovery - I remain always in his debt. To all of you, please accept my sincere sympathy - Joe was a good man who made such a difference - each life is a miracle that changes the world - Joe was one of those miracles! God bless you and give you comfort in knowing Joe is safely Home. Wonder if he met Bill and Bob yet???

I would like to offer my sincere sympathy and condolences for the loss of Joe. Throughout my 18 years of recovery my contact with him was limited by situations but much appreciated. His sense of humor, outlandish attitude and sharp wit provided many a bright spot. I will sorely miss sitting next to him at the Cook Forest Conference and trading barbs. My prayers are with the family and many friends who are sharing in the celebration of the memories of his life and mourning the loss. Much love

Dear Diana and Family,

Our sincerest condolences on your loss. Joe was certainly one of God's finest gifts to the Fellowship. He reached out often and touched so many lives with his warm smile, firm handshake, kind words, that special laugh and that look in his eyes that said to so many "If I can make it kid so can you". Joe always gave so freely of the "Gift" that he had been given. That is the primary purpose that is so important to us all and Joe certainly carried the message to countless numbers.

He will be sorely missed by all. May God Bless

Memories of Joe will live on in the lives of all who were blessed to have known him. Everytime someone mentions a 'monkey' or 'new set of teeth', I will laugh inside remembering his life. Not to worry, he is sitting at the right hand of God as we speak. I'm sorry for your personal loss and the loss of my friend. He was quite a character!

Diane and family,

You graciously shared your husband and dad with our "extended family." Over the years Joe lit up my and our lives with a broad smile, a ready hand shake, a quick joke to lighten our hearts, and most of all, his warm, steady, encouraging "presence" as the friends of Bill W. met "to share our experience, strength and hope with each other." We haven't "lost" Joe, we know where he is. He has heard the Lord Jesus say: "Well done, good and faithful servant. Come and share in our Father's joy."

We will miss him here, until we join him there. You are in my prayers. May the Lord Jesus comfort you and draw you nearer to Himself in the difficult days ahead.
