Joseph G. O'Donnell, 84, of Newburyport died Aug. 14, 2010 at the Anna Jaques Hospital. Mr. O'Donnell was born in Philadelphia, Pa. on Dec. 25, 1925 the son of the late James A. and Ella (McAleer) O'Donnell. While living in Philadelphia Joseph graduated from West Catholic High School in 1943. After high school at the age of 17 he joined the U.S. Army and served in the European Theatre from September 1943 until June 1948. Joseph spent the rest of his life as a regional sales manager until his retirement in 1990, after this he continued to work at Mail Boxes, Etc. in Newburyport. He was a Eucharistic Minister at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Newburyport, was a former member of the Newburyport Knights of Columbus and was an avid Red Sox and Patriot fan. He is predeceased by his wife Eleanor (Carlin) O'Donnell and is survived by his children; Mary Ellen O'Donnell and her companion Sean Hanley of Salisbury, Mass., Eileen O'Donnell of Denver, Colo., Jeanne O'Donnell of Cleveland, Ohio, Denise and her husband Walter Dray of Carlisle, Mass., Anne and her husband George Torres of Poway, Calif. and Joseph and his wife Joanne O'Donnell of Georgetown. He is also survived by his grandchildren Devon, McKenzie and Dakota Dray of Carlisle, Alex and Rachel Torres of Poway, Calif. and Shaye, Brooke and Lacey O'Donnell of Georgetown as well as his sister Sr. James Marie O'Donnell, S.N.D. of Cincinnati, Ohio and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery both in Newburyport. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the Twomey - LeBlanc and Conte Funeral Home, 193 High Street, Newburyport, MA 01950.
