Joseph Ortiz Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 13, 2023.
It is with great sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved Joey Ortiz on May 25th, 2023, after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest which ultimately caused an unrecoverable brain injury.

Joey is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Ortiz. He is survived by his Fiance Jessica Ivinson, Step-son Anthony, Mother Linda Ashmore, Sister JoAnna Ortiz, Brother Anthony Ortiz, Step-sister Krista Delgado, nieces and nephews Aaron, Briana, Jaxyn, Kennedy and Raegan. Joey also grew up with his closest cousins, who are like siblings to him, and their children all call him "Uncle Joe". In addition to his two loving dogs, Luna and Nova, Joey was like family to so many people, and he will be missed tremendously by all.

Joey was born September 25th, 1976, in Los Angeles county and moved to Camarillo with his parents and sister when he was 3yrs old. He loved spending quality time with everyone in his life; be it family gatherings, concerts, vacations or simply enjoying time at home. Joey liked to play golf with his cousin Ray and many others. As a young boy Joey loved playing baseball, which later evolved into his love of softball. Being present at the fields was a huge part of who Joey was. He played in many slow pitch softball tournaments, on several men's leagues, and he also was on a co-ed team with Jessica. When Joey and Jessica weren't playing softball, they were watching and supporting Anthony in baseball. Even though Joey worked nights, he never wanted to miss a game. His family and friends will continue to carry Joey's love on the field for years to come.

Joey recently celebrated 28 years of employment with Vons. He joined the company when he was 18 and worked at several locations across Ventura County, including 10+ years at the store on Main Street in Ventura. Many of Joey's co-workers became close friends and his time with the night-crew was like working with family.

Joey was always the kind of person to lend a helping hand. Be it his Grandmother, Mother, family or friends. He would work extra hours or even help a stranger, just because he felt it was the right thing to do. He was the type of man to give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. Within the last three years, Joey decided to become an organ donor which led to his final selfless act by passing on the gift of life. It brings us peace to know that Joey will live on in the lives he has saved, and that several families will be gifted more time with their loved ones because of him. Joey's laughter and smile will be missed dearly by all.

This is not goodbye, it's until we meet again...
