Carol Long Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 21, 2011.
Carol Long, 72, a resident of Swoyersville passed away surrounded by her loving family Friday evening, Aug. 19, 2011, after a courageous 18-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

Her loving husband is Robert R. Long. Bob and Carol would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary Sept. 19. Together, they raised three beautiful daughters, Charlene, Carolyn and Christin.

Born Feb. 1, 1939, in Wilkes-Barre, Carol was the daughter of the late George and Anna Goomba Minnick.

Carol was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Class of 1956. Following her high school graduation, Carol went on to further her education at Wilkes-Barre Business College, where she acquired her associate degree.

Throughout her life, Carol was employed as a greeter by Ertley Motorworld, Wilkes-Barre, and also as a banquet waitress by the Woodlands Inn and Resort, Plains Township, and Genetti Hotel and Suites, Wilkes-Barre. Additionally, Carol and her husband, Robert, started their own business, Business Accounting Systems Inc., where Carol served the role of vice president of the company.

A devout Catholic, Carol was a member of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Swoyersville, where she held membership with her parish's Confraternity of Christian Women. Active within her church, Carol would volunteer every year helping make pirohy for her parish bazaar.

Carol was always there for her children and she played an active role in their lives as they grew up by volunteering her time as a Girl Scout Leader and cheerleading coach.

In her free time, Carol participated in many activities, including running in charity races, going for walks and socializing with her many friends.

Carol and Bob greatly enjoyed traveling together. They especially enjoyed their trips out to the west coast, which was one of their favorite regions of the United States to visit.

Family was Carol's greatest love in life and she cherished each moment she had with her family. She was a proud grandmother who always looked forward to spending time with her seven grandchildren.

During her 18-month battle with pancreatic cancer, Carol participated in two pancreatic cancer walks and attended cancer support meetings, where she was looked upon as an inspirational role model for all.

The Long family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Saidman and his staff at Medical Oncology Associates and also to the nurses and staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the extraordinary care they bestowed upon Carol during her time of illness.

In addition to her parents, George and Anna Minnick, Carol was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Minnick.

In addition to her husband, Bob, Carol is survived by her daughters, Charlene Long, Schwenksville; Carolyn Long Yepiz, Laguna Bach, Calif.; Christin Meighan, Forty Fort; her grandchildren, Kelly Ann, Thomas and Katy Meighan, all of Forty Fort; Dylan, Katrina, Mateo and Ali Yepiz, all of Laguna Beach, Calif.; her brother, David Minnick, Plains Township; her sisters, Barbara Czalski, Plains Township; and Diane Janiszewski, Plains Township; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, which will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from Wroblewski Funeral Home Inc., 1442 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church, 116 Hughes St., Swoyersville. The Rev. Richard J. Cirba, her former pastor, will officiate.

Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas.

Family and friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

The Confraternity of Christian Women of Holy Trinity Church will recite the rosary at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

I will always treasure my memories of Carol. Through out the years we had many good times. I can still see her as a model for the Heart Association at the Woodlands Fashion show. She went through her heart surgery so bravely, and she fought her cancer the same way. You never heard her whine about anything, she was always just fine. She couldn't understand why everyone made such a fuss over her being ill. I keep close the memory of our vacations in Ocean City New Jersey. She and I would do aerobics classes and walk and jog on the beach before the kids would get up in the morning. Cooking, swimming, enjoying the Boardwalk with the grandkids in the evening. It seems like yesterday. We shared the same grandkids and that kept us close. We were never like in-laws, she would stop over my house out of the blue for a cup of tea or a glass of wine, and I loved to get together with her for Dominos , a movie, or taking the granddaughters to Sugar's Tea Room. I miss her so much. Love you Carol
