Joseph Pikula Obituary
Peacefully at home with his family at his side, Joe passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday April 26, 2015 in his 71st year. Loving husband of Bernice. Dear father of Alison and Todd Harrison, Nadia and Rob Crane and Joe and Tiffany Pikula. Loving Dziadziu of Ryan, Logan, Scott, Nathan, Avery, Hudson, Trent, Nolan and Brynley. Son of the late Joseph and Mildred Pikula and dear brother of Henry and Mary Pikula and Tom and Joan Pikula. Dear Brother-in-law of Ed and Laurel Karkut and predeceased by sister-in-law Joan Karkut and father and mother-in-law Albert and Cecylia Karkut. He will be remembered by many nieces and nephews. Joe was fortunate to be a member of the Grey Cup Championship team (1963) with the Hamilton Tiger Cats, he was a retired employee with the L.C.B.O. and Flamboro Downs. The family would like to thank Dr. Maria Deleon-Matsuda and nurse Emma along with all the doctors and nurses at the Brantford General Hospital and Juravinski Cancer Clinic. The family will receive friends at the "THORPE BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL" 96 West Street on Tuesday April 28th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and on Wednesday April 29th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. CWL Rosary at the funeral home, Wednesday at 3:30 pm and Parish Prayers at 8:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 235 Brant Avenue on Thursday April 30th at 10:00 am. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations to St. Joseph's Church Scholarship Fund, the Elevator Fund or to a special charity of your choice would be appreciated.

We just today learned of Joe's passing. Our family's most sincere condolences. Our paths have crossed many times and in many ways. We are so sorry for your loss! Joe was a good man and may your memories sustain you. We remember many fun times together through both hockey and baseball, as well as, community events. One memory that always gives us a chuckle was in summer hockey days. Joe yelled over to me to take the smelly hockey players in my van and he would drive the perfumed sisters in his!! Rest in peace, Joe, you have earned it. Keith, Jo-Anne, Mike, Dani and Mikki, Dave and Steve and Serg.

To the Pikula family, I am very sorry for your loss. It was a pleasure to run into Mr. Pikula and Alison and her boys at the hockey rink in Paris not that long ago, and to reminisce about when we were younger. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

To Bernice and the Pikula Family, I pass on my condolenance for your loss of a gental giant of a man. I met Joe when he was a basketball referee in Btfd doing high school games. Later in life Joe helped me hone my skills as a referee and he taught me a few things about being thick skin and enjoying the game.
Joe earned his angel wings at a young age, he has left us all a lot of good memories.

Mrs. Pikula, Joe Jr. and family, My heartfelt condolences. I have many fond hockey and childhood memories with Mr. Pikula. I recall his kind character, spirituality and great sense of humour as shining attributes. More recently, it was nice to share some good laughs and enjoy some Lenny Gomulka. There are certain people that God has ordained to represent all that is good in his creation. These people are few and far between, Joe Pikula was one of them . From the earliest days of my youth I knew Joe as a man of strength and fairness, of courtesy and self sacrifice, of kind words and commitment, of support for the weakest amongst us. Joe, to me, always represented home and heritage and epitomized the term 'noble.' His great love continues in his family and all of his wonderful progeny. May God bless him and his family and may the peace and love of Christ, that Joe so clearly represented, continue through the ages, in the actions and words of those of us who remain.
