Joseph Squerciati Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 24, 2025.
Joseph William Squerciati, 90, went to his eternal rest on April 7, 2025 in Westbury, NY.

Joseph was born in Queens, NY on October 11,1934. He proudly served in the United States Navy for four years before graduating with a degree in engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York in 1962. While at Rensselaer, Joseph meet the love of his life, Thomasina DeLuca. They were married on 1963, had two children, and moved to Hicksville, NY. Joseph worked as a senior systems analyst for over 30 years at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in New York, NY.

Joseph loved his wife and family, and enjoyed relaxing days at Jones Beach as well as planning elaborate vacations to Walt Disney World, tours of Italy, and cruises to Bermuda and the Panama Canal. He always enjoyed dining out, and going to the movies with friends and family. Joseph was smart, funny, and humble, with a self-deprecating sense of humor that always sought to include others in on the joke and never exclude them. He enjoyed science fiction movies and shows, especially Star Trek, The Twilight Zone, and The Outer Limits. He was a lifelong New York sports fan who especially loved Brooklyn Dodgers and Mets baseball as well as Rangers hockey. Joseph was dedicated and passionate, whether he was watching his favorite sports teams on television, enjoying a meal with friends, writing a letter the editor of Newsday, or sending a thoughtful card. A Godly man and a devout Catholic, he was compassionate, selfless with his time, generous with his resources, and always willing to help those in need. Joseph always had a special place in his heart for children. His friends and family will miss his humor, his kindness, his soft spoken wisdom, and his boundless joy for living.

Those who know and love Joseph can envision him enjoying heaven to the fullest, and may be comforted by thought that one day he'll be waiting to meet us there... probably at a small café with a smile, a plate of fettuccine alfredo, and a slice of key lime pie.

Joseph is survived by his wife Thomasina, his daughter MaryBeth, his son John, his granddaughters Paula and Gabriela, and his sisters-in-law Joyce, Josephine, and Alice. He is predeceased by his brother, Charles.

There will be a memorial service for Joseph at 10:30 am on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 500 S Oyster Bay Road, Hicksville, NY. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. Jude’s Children's® Research Hospital.

"He was a man, take him for all in all, I shall not look upon his like again."

(Hamlet, Act 1, Scene 2)

I will always remember uncle Joe my godfather, coming to Oceanside and taking us to Jones beach that was in the 60's his wonderful wife and how much fun they always were at family functions. So blessed we were able to reconnect in the past few year's. He will always be lovingly remembered by both myself and my wife Michelle. Rest in peace Joseph.

By all accounts, he was a wonderful gentleman who more than earned his eternal rest. May his memory be a blessing.
