Maxine Pitre Larson Sanger, 94, of Lake Charles passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2022 in the comfort of her home.
Mrs. Sanger was born October 31, 1927 to Elzie and Lovina Moreau Pitre in Kinder, LA. She lived most of her life in Lake Charles. She was a graduate of Kinder High School and completed Modeling school soon after. She began her young career as a bookkeeper for Price Motors. She will be well remembered throughout our community as a face of The Christian Bookstore where she worked decades, primarily in bookkeeping and operations, later purchasing partnership in the store where she continued operations as the co-owner well into her eighties. Mrs. Sanger embraced time shared with family and friends with special interest independent of each relationship. She cooked Sunday meals for gatherings of family, enjoyed eating crawfish throughout the crawfish season with her son, Eric; cheering on the New Orleans Saints with her son, Kurt; touring plantations and participating in the Banner Series India night with her granddaughters, Mercia and Nabeela; visits with many games of Canasta with her sister, Jane and 3:00 coffee time each day with her neighbors. Mrs. Sanger also loved travel, having traveled the world extensively throughout our country as well as internationally.
A lifelong member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Sanger was an admirable lady of faith, family and friends. She is affectionately remembered by her children for giving them “the best childhood”!
She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Eric Neal Larson (Molly) of Lake Charles and Kurt David Larson (Angelle) of Moss Bluff; adopted by heart, two granddaughters, Mercia Paul and Nabeela Paul; one sister, Jane Withers of Baton Rouge; eight grandchildren, April, Christopher, Stephanie, Ryan, Jennifer, Mark, Morgan and Megan; one great grandchild and one on the way and a vast number of friends.
She was preceded in death by her first love, Harold Desmond Larson; one son, Matt Conway Larson; dear friend and second husband, Lenny Sanger; parents and brother, Sonny Boy Pitre.
Funeral services in celebration of her life will be at 6:00 PM Monday, October 24, 2022 in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home. Reverend Thiago Silva of Bethel Presbyterian Church will officiate. Family and friends will gather from 4:00 PM until the time of service. Gathering will continue following her services until 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Sanger’s family ask for acts of kindness to others and/or donations to someone in need. They also ask that everyone in attendance dress comfortably.

I remember Maxine as my sister´s best friend. Dorrie had an illness which kept her mostly isolated but she and Maxine hit it off. Maxine never missed a birthday. I´m sure the two of them are rejoicing in Heaven together.

Kurt- I have fond memories of your Mom when we were classmates at Prien Lake Elementary. And then she was most helpful at The Christian Book Store, always pleasant. Sending my heartfelt condolences and prayers for your family
