LEAVELL, Josephine WinstonKrebs, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 1, 2008. Agraveside service will be heldFriday, April 4, 2008 at 11:00a.m. at Memorial Cemeterywith Dr. R. Lawson Bryan andRev. Fred Fuller officiating.Visitation with the family willbe at the home of Mr.& Mrs.Craig Strickland from 5:00 until 7:00 PM on Thursday, April3, 2008. Mrs. Leavell was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Jay C.Leavell, Jr.; her father, MillerMartin Krebs; her mother, LoisThompson Krebs; her sisters,Anne Krebs Howe of Montgomery, AL, and CarolineKrebs Cathey of Huntsville,AL.; and brothers, Miller Martin Krebs, Jr. and Dr. Allen Joseph Krebs. She is survived byher four children; Winston J.Leavell and Candice L. Strickland (Craig) of Montgomery,AL.; Tracy L. Sellers (Ray) ofAlabaster, AL.; Wiley O.Leavell (Kim) of Marietta, GA.;sisters, Grace Krebs HarperKey of Birmingham, AL. andKathleen Krebs Crowe (Lee)of Pascagoula, MS; hergrandchildren, Rory WinstonLeavell and Jack EdwardBenjamin Leavell of McLean,VA; Martin Jay Strickland andEmily Beth Strickland of Montgomery, AL.; Jay Coulter Sellers of Alabaster, AL.; BrycesonMcGregor Leavell and CullenAndrew Leavell of Marietta,GA.; sister-in-laws, Jo CarrollKrebs of Auburn, AL.; PeggyTutrow Krebs of Sebrine, FL.;and a host of nieces andnephews. Born in Birmingham, AL. December 15, 1927,Jo graduated Shorter HighSchool, Shorter, AL. in 1946.She attended HuntingdonCollege, Montgomery, AL. Jo,along with her late husband,Jay Leavell, were bothamong the original chartermembers of the MontgomeryArt Guild where later sheserved as President and thenbecame a Life Member of theGuild. Jo loved art-it providedher greatest happiness in life,and it afforded her a realsense of satisfaction and accomplishment in her life. Shetaught art in her home formany children and adultsthroughout the years, andwas an art instructor with theMontgomery Armory Learning Arts Center, director of 17Springs Arts & Craft Show from1974-1975, director andfounder of Still Waters ArtShow 1975, and past-president of the Guild of Performing Arts. Jo participated in numerous art exhibits and wonmany art awards at the Company Gallery, SACS Gallery,Montgomery Festival in thepark, the Alabama ArtLeague and the MontgomeryMuseum of Fine Arts. Prior toher move in 2000 from Montgomery to Calera, AL. shewas an active member of FirstUnited Methodist Church ofMontgomery. Jo was an active member of the Montgomery Anne Phillips Chapterof DAR(Daughters of theAmerican Revolution), theBenjamin Fenn Chapter of theNational Society ColonialDames XVII Century, past-president of the Al. Division ofthe National Society MagnaCharter Dames & Barons, andEntrenous. In lieu of flowers,donations may be made tothe First United MethodistChurch Building Fund, 2416W.
