Josephine Marie Galante Mangiafico, 82, of Brodheadsville, formerly of Hawthorne, N.J., passed away of natural causes peacefully Oct. 4 with her family by her side.

She was born April 17, 1927, the daughter of the late Frank Galante and Angelina DeFeo Galante, sister of the late Francis Curcio and Frank Galante Jr.

She was a caring, wonderful nurse for many years at Valley Hospital in New Jersey. She loved going to the shore on cool days, doing puzzles, going out for lunch and, above all, cooking for her family and friends. Later on, she was a gourmet chef, and everyone who knew and loved her was well-fed and happy.

She was one of Jehovah's Witnesses for five decades, and she was very loved by the members of the Brodheadsville, Effort and Reeders congregations. Her greatest comfort and hope was to wake up healthy and see her parents and siblings again.

She is survived by her three children, Jamie Lynn Detrick and husband, Jim, of Effort, Paul Mangiafico of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Susan Jo Mangiafico of Effort; six grandchildren, Jason Detrick and wife, Stacy, Kristopher and Dana Mangiafico, Shannon Nordmeyer and husband, Tim, Salena Fehnel and husband, Ryan, and Sherrie Vertolomo; four beautiful great-grandchildren, Blake and Jaida Nordmeyer and Gavin and Kate Detrick; and nieces and nephews.

She was loved so much by her family and will be missed dearly until they see her again.

A memorial service will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the William H. Kresge Funeral Home, Route 209, Brodheadsville. Interment will be private, in Totowa, N.J., where she will be laid to rest with her family.

I would like nothing more than to be able to give you Susan, Jaime and Paul some beautiful words of comfort. The truth of the matter is, you will miss your Mom greatly. I know. But there's One more Truth- and that is, you Will be with her again. She has lived a life of Faith, Courage, and a strong Belief that she will awaken only to be with her loved ones again. We share that same Faith and that alone is OUR Comfort. Some of my happiest memories are that of being on 102 1st Ave. Hearing your mother's laughter coming from the kitchen, and always being made to feel so welcome by her. I will never forget her warmth, her sincerity and her kindness she showed towards me. Be strong in your faith as she would want you to be, and know that You and All of your family will be in my prayers. Love to you all, amelia
