It is with heavy hearts we say goodbye to our beautiful mother, Josephine Meechan, surrounded by her 4 children, her most beloved pride and joy. After a brief illness, Josie passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at the age of 81 at the Hamilton General. Predeceased by her beloved husband Thomas (2000), survived by her 4 children, John (Jennifer), Gerald (Heather), Dennis and Kay(Robbie)Meilleur. Cherished grandmother to Meghan, Andrew, Taylor, Collin, Hudson and Kennedy. Josephine was a long time employee of the DSBN, retiring from Edith Cavell. She was a member of the St. Catharines Scottish Club and a devoted member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. She will be sadly missed by close friend John Clark and family, as well as many friends and family in Canada, Scotland and the USA. The family would like to extend thanks to staff at the SCGH, especially Dr. Tim St. Amand, Dr. Anna Kobylecky and staff at the HGH, with special thanks to nurse Kim Barker, "thanks for being you".
The family will receive friends at the HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 75 Church Street (905-684-6346) on Tuesday November 1, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Vigil Prayers will take place at 8:30p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St.Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 169 St.Paul Crescent on Wednesday November 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. The Rite of Committal will take place at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke would be appreciated by the family. On-line tributes may be made at www.hulseandenglish.com.

Dear John,Gerald,Dennis and Kay, we are sorry to hear about the loss of your mother, I looked at the photos, they were beautiful, and they brought back memories of the years watching you all grow up, and times spent at our house, especially Kay. Now you all have such lovely families of your own. It is wonderful that your mom got to spend time with all her grandchildren, I know how much she loved you all. She was a strong, lovely lady, and she has been through a lot of things and overcome. It was so good that she had you all close around her. I am so sorry that we could not attend the funeral, but we are thinking of you on this sad day when you say good-bye to dear Josie. We will always remember the years on Permilla St. and Josie and Tom Meechan and their lovely children. Take care and comfort each other.

Sorry to here about your mother and grandmother very few can say they have a mother like yours.Josie was very kind to my family.She gave the girls snowsuits in there first years which kept them warm all winter.Josie always filled there bags at Halloween with candy, chocolate bars and money.Josie was always generous with the hugs and kisses great to have a laugh with her.A devoted wife and mother and loyal friend.Thinking about your Dad today also.
