Josephine Sturiale Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 11, 2017.
On Monday, January 9, 2017, the Sturiale, Fisher, Sturiale Brenan, Weinstock, and LoGiudici families lost Josephine Grace Sturiale (née LoGiudici). She was 75 years old. We will miss her fierce loyalty, spirited demeanor, boundless hospitality, and quick-witted humor.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Indeed, family was everything to her. She looked for any opportunity to host a gathering, which always involved intricate meals and often involved a competitive round of cards.

Her house was not only open to family. Neighbors, friends, and friends of friends, were always welcome.

She was born on September 12, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY and was the eldest of four children. She graduated from Weldon E. Howitt High School in Farmingdale, NY at the age of 16. Being unsure of a career path, she opted not to go to college and instead went to cosmetology school. She worked for some time as a hairdresser.

On September 13, 1964-one day after her twenty-third birthday-she married Theodore Sturiale. Over the next fifty-two years of their lives, they would raise three children, move from New York to Florida, share a number of adventures and triumphs . . . some disappointments . . . travel to destinations both near and far; and experience the joy and love of eight grandchildren.

She loved and was active in her church, Saint Clare Catholic Church in Deltona, Florida. She served on the Fundraising and 20th Anniversary Committees and represented Italy at the International Fair. She was in charge of the menus and cooking for all the church events.

She is survived by her husband, Theodore Sturiale; her children, Lisa Fisher (Gayne), Jennifer Sturiale (Duncan Brenan), and Theodore Sturiale (Amy); eight grandchildren; her sister, Petrina Weinstock; and her brother, Vincent LoGiudici.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Clare Catholic Church in Deltona, FL on Saturday, January 14, at 11 a.m., followed by entombment at Deltona Memorial Gardens in Orange City and a reception at the church. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the Funeral Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saint Clare Catholic Church.
