Joshua Huff Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 26, 2025.
Joshua Phillip Huff passed away unexpectedly on August 23, 2025 at his home in New York City. Born on July 19, 1980, in Indianapolis, IN, Josh had a passion for life, was always the highlight of any party, and brought joy to so many.

Josh was a loving husband to his Sweetest Boo, Chris Williams, and dog dad to Zeke. He is survived by his grandmother, Dolores Huff; his mother, Saundra Huff; his brother, Paul Huff (Tracy); his niece and nephew, Alishaá Jones (Quintin) and Adrian Huff. Josh is also survived by his many aunts and uncles, Marvin (Alice), Vickie (D'armon), Anthony (Debbie), and Brian; and loved his cousins and their children, Cicely, Candra, Philip, Devon, Macy and George. Josh was loved by his in-laws, Donna and Brian Williams, Tim Williams (Kristi Lubey) and niece, Madilyn. Josh is predeceased by his grandfather Marvin Huff, his uncle Philip, cousin, Robin Chris, and his sweet boogaloo, Zoe.

A proud graduate of Indiana University, Josh was an active member of the Singing Hoosiers, where he met life-long friends that soon became chosen family, many of whom moved to New York City with him. In NYC, Josh continued to make friends everywhere he went, whether dancing on the Big Piano at FAO Schwartz, regional theatre at Mill Mountain Playhouse, or performing for a year in Osaka Japan. In 2007, a chance subway ride and a serendipitous Post-it note, led Josh to Chris and they began to cultivate a loving life together. After years of performing and nannying, Josh transitioned to the corporate world, where his innate ability to connect with others shone through in his successful career in talent acquisition. He fostered friendships at every workplace, seamlessly integrating them into his already vibrant social circle. In 2012, Josh and Chris celebrated their love with a beautiful wedding in Provincetown, MA, a place that became their cherished second home and hub for their expanding community of love and friendship.

Josh had a passion for summer, music-especially his divas Whitney, Beyoncé, and Christina-celebrating every key change and transforming any space into a dance floor. He adored spending time with family and friends, and relishing in snuggles with his beloved pups. His radiant smile, infectious spirit, and unwavering dedication to his loved ones will forever be remembered. He was truly America's Sweetheart. Josh had a magical outlook on life: anything was possible, and while the next moment was unpredictable, it was always worth following his lead.

In honor of Josh's memory, we invite you to consider making a donation to the Legal Defense Fund or the Actors' Equity Foundation-organizations that support causes he believed in. Celebrations of Josh's remarkable life will be scheduled soon, allowing us to gather in love and remembrance.

Joshua was such an incredible regular at Vers. I always loved to see his smile when he would walk in before seeing a show or grabbing dinner with friends. I will miss making him a Cherry Bramble with no Tonic.

I still remember the very moment I met him. While lounging poolside in Key West he walked up with his big smile said "Hi, Im Josh." From there he found a seat on the edge of my lounge chair where we chatted. I had the opportunity to spend time with him and his friends during that trip but also several more. I am forever grateful we crossed paths and remained friends.

I am sending my love to his husband, family and friends. My hope as everyone moves forward that we all can spread the love and friendship he gave to so many

I only recently met Josh at work a month ago when he started. We were seated together all day at our company offsite and hit it off immediately over our love of New York and musical theatre. He was so authentic and sweet, just had a wonderful aura about him. I was excited to become friends... I want to send my condolences to his friends, family, and husband. I know how sad I feel after knowing him for just a day. I can´t even imagine the loss those are feeling that truly knew him.

Josh was a very talented Singing Hoosier, a wonderful student manager (2000-2001), a member of the Varsity Singers, and a great help to me and to the Singing Hoosiers in general. What a tragic loss. He will be in my memory for years. Loved by all. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of his family and friends.

Dear Josh,
I've struggled with what to write that hasn't already been said. Your infectious joy, your bright spirit, your warm heart - it's touched so many people, your legacy is immeasurable. I think of all the parties and get togethers we shared and how you made everyone feel. Myself included. Your dance moves, your singing, the passion with which you spoke. On the walk to the bar from Baylander, we talked about a few things but most importantly, our mustache crushes. I will forever hold on to that memory. We were so lucky to have you.
With Love,
Neville

Josh: You are a true gem of a person. I will always cherish the amazing times we worked together, which eventually led us to become friends and even gave us the chance to share not just one workplace, but two. You are the kindest, funniest, and best hype man. I´m still in shock, but we love and miss you dearly. Forever grateful that our paths crossed. I know wherever you are: you are smiling, with an iced coffee in hand, and laughing. The best and most contagious laugh of all belongs to you. Love you and miss you, my friend.

Josh was one of the most wonderful humans I´ve ever met. He always made me feel seen and special. We went from coworkers to friends, and then I had the absolute privilege and pleasure of having Josh as my boss for the last 4 years. Let me tell you, he was the greatest manager I´ll ever have. The most supportive, the kindest, and the best hype man. He made me believe I was worthy and valued. He was a mentor to me but much more than that he was a close friend. There´s a Josh sized hole in my heart. Sending love and condolences to Chris and their families, he was such a bright light and will forever be missed.

Josh and I worked at Grey together. Each month we had a "Grey Gays" happy hour and Josh was always ready to hang and had a huge smile on his face. His energy was so positive and bright. The few times I hung out with Josh and Chris and their friends I could tell that Josh was much loved and it was obvious why. We hadn´t spoken in several years but his loss hits hard. What a great guy. You are missed.

I was heartbroken to hear of Josh´s passing. He was such a special person in my life - one of my earliest mentors in my career, and even after we stopped working together, we always stayed in touch. We kept each other updated on life events, cheered one another on, and I would often say I couldn´t wait for the day we´d get to work together again.

Josh brought joy and light into every room. He made work fun, and he reminded me that good people truly do exist in this world. Everyone loved Josh! His spirit was so free, so vibrant, and so uniquely him. I´ll never forget his videos of dancing in the street with an iced coffee in hand -that was Josh in a nutshell: fun, fearless, and full of life.

He left a huge impact on me, and I feel such sadness knowing there will be no more conversations, no margarita plans, no new memories to make. It feels so unfair that his light is gone from this earth, but I know his memory and the joy he shared will last forever. I hope he´s dancing and singing in heaven now, just as freely as he did here.

I´m keeping Chris and their families/friends in my prayers for strength, comfort, and healing during this incredibly difficult time. It was such an honor to know Josh, and I will carry his impact with me always.

It´s so hard to believe that Josh is gone from this Earth. He was so upbeat, so pumped full of energy. Josh had an unshakeable zest for life. It´s hard to grasp his passing. His love for his "people", his doggies, and particularly his sweetest boo, Chris, was unmistakable. Josh could always put a smile on your face. Unafraid to dance or throw shade, he marched to his own beat and he wore the clothes! A handsome, loving, wonderful man. His leaving leaves a gap-a gaping void. Will & I are grateful for the years of friendship that we´ve had with Josh & Chris. Certainly not enough. But Josh, you left this world on a high note. See you at tea in heaven, babe

There are so many HS memories with Josh in them. Belting out Spice Girls in his car, snagging Rally´s fries, two musicals, countless choirs, Josh never ceased to push us all to believe in ourselves and that there was absolutely NOTHING we could not accomplish. He was truly an amazing soul that is gone entirely too soon. Praying for his husband Chris who he lived to rave about last time we caught up, and his family that he loved so fiercely during this time.

Though we may have fallen out of touch in recent years, Josh has left an indelible mark on my life through our time together in junior high and high school. I will cherish the memories of your infectious fun-loving spirit, your incredible positivity, and your immeasurable creativity. From Excel classes and lunch 4C at South Wayne to choir and Godspell at BD, we were coconspirators in shenanigans, cowriters of silly songs, and most importantly, cohorts sharing life and growing up together. You left this world way too soon. I pray that your family finds comfort and peace in their fond memories of all the joy you've brought this world.

I´m overcome by emotion thinking of my dear friend, Josh. In High School, we were close friends. He was on the Homecoming court his senior year, my junior year, and I was his date. He was crowned Homecoming King (No surprise lol). We went to the after party and sang Spice Girls and Cristina Karaoke to our hearts content. He dragged me to Rocky Horror Picture Shows, encouraged me to try out for the musical, Music Man, and I got to visit him down at IU in some of his performances while I was at Purdue. He was always a supporting friend from afar- giving me encouragement in those early years when I was raising my son as a single mom. It has been 15 years ago since I got to meet up with Josh in NYC. He was simply the best and radiated joy. There are a handful of humans in my life, some that are no longer here that made me feel special and brave. Josh was in that handful. My sincerest condolences to his love, Chris and his beautiful family. Josh will forever be in my heart

There are many words swirling around in my brain about Josh - but the one that keeps coming to the top is "joy." The joyous life he led, the joy he brought others, the joy emanating from his very being every time he stepped into the room or onto the dance floor. He was a formative presence in my time at IU, and I'm grateful for the memories we shared in the years that followed. He will be truly missed. Thinking of his loved ones during this extremely difficult time.

I´m heartbroken. I´ve known Josh for over a decade. We both found ourselves living in the Washington Heights/Inwood area after the pandemic and I literally just ran into him on the street before I left for the job I´m currently on. I will forever cherish the moment you told me to call you after I received a worrisome email only for you to tell me that everything was fine and not to worry. I feel like that moment is a great example of your boundless kindness and empathy.

I'm so sorry that we never got a chance to meet in person but I greatly enjoyed working with you and the time we had together - I'm a better person for it.

Rest easy my friend. I'm sure you're already on a beach somewhere soaking up the sun, making friends, and being your wonderful self. See you on the other side when I get there. Hugs and love forever.

Well, it feels strange to say this, but I never actually met Josh in person. We were Instagram friends, and aside from him always saying how cute my kiddos were, we´d talk about shows and things like that. One of the last things we joked about was that I loved Boop, and therefore, had good taste, lol. We had said this would be the year we´d finally grab that drink we´d been talking about for years. My heart goes out to his husband, family, and friends. I´ll truly miss our chats and chuckles. Be well, Josh.
