Joshua Nicholson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 14, 2014.

It is with deep remorse and sadness that we report the untimely death of our son Joshua Scott Nicholson. Josh was taken from us, on December 12, 2014 in a tragic accident in Atlanta, Georgia. He was deeply loved by us and all who got to know him. He is and will be deeply missed.

Services for Josh will be held on Saturday December 20, 2014 at HM Paterson Funeral Home - Oglethorpe, Peachtree Industrial Blvd, Brookhaven, Georgia. A visitation / viewing will be from 11:00 AM to approximately 1:00 pm followed by a celebration of his life memorial service in the adjacent Chapel from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. All are welcome.

Josh is survived by his mother Linda and father Ray as well as aunts uncles and cousins.

Josh was a smart, good and kind natured from young man with a passion for life and, when possible, enjoyed it the fullest with his friends and family. He always had a gorgeous smile, bright beautiful captivating eyes to go along with his charismatic personality. He cared deeply about people. He wanted to and did help many to achieve higher goals. He had many friends and acquaintances.

Josh was born on August 30, 1990, at Northside Hospital Atlanta, four weeks early, the son of Ray and Linda Nicholson. He grew up in Peachtree Corners (Norcross), Georgia, attending Simpson Elementary and Pickneyville Middle School. He graduated Norcross High School in 2008. He attended Kennesaw State University and graduated with a Bachelor degree in Public Relations and Communications in August 2012.

In his youth he participated in the usual sports, baseball, soccer, football and the neighborhood swim team, but it was not until he started competitive cheerleading that he found his passion. He practiced and trained all of the time and developed tremendous talents, dancing, stunting and especially tumbling. He competed on several teams including Cobra All Stars, Georgia All Stars, and Sting Rays. At Georgia All Stars and Sting Ray’s he was part of many championship victories. He loved to entertain on the cheerleading stage.

At the urging of several high school cheerleaders Josh, dropped out of football and joined the cheerleading squad at Norcross high school, also competing in the co-ed division for the State Cheerleading championships. In college he participated on the Kennesaw State University Cheerleading squad. During and after college he continued to compete on private senior co-ed competitive cheer teams, most recently Josh was cheering with Jayhawks open team located in Duluth, Georgia.

In college he joined the Kennesaw State, club gymnastics team where he applied and improved his expert tumbling skills. He learned other gymnastic skills, vault, parallel bars, high bar and rings.

Josh was well traveled for a man of his age. He had traveled Europe, Miami, Lake Tahoe, CA, Carmel CA, New York City, Costa Rica, St. Kitts, St. Thomas, Puerto Rico, St. Croix, Los Cabos, Mexico, Hawaii, Miami and Fort Lauderdale. He learned to snow ski at an early age and had the opportunity to ski many resorts in Colorado and New Mexico with his family and friends. He saw the sun rise from the top of Mona Kea volcano in Hawaii and the sunset on the beaches of Los Cabos, Mexico. He scuba-dived the reefs of St. Croix. He saw the monkeys, sloths, iguanas and birds of Costa Rica where he zip lined over a tropical forested valley. He cruised the Caribbean. He was fortunate to have traveled so much. His friends and family felt so fortunate to have traveled with him.

After college Josh applied his education working for not-for-profit Company promoting adoption of children and developing web-sites for small companies. A very good looking man with an outstanding physique, Josh modeled and was on the cover of a local Atlanta magazine. He also worked as a model brand representative for a local spirits distributor. Josh resided for the last two years of his life in Mid-town Atlanta where he worked and made many more friends and acquaintances and was active in the Mid-town community. Josh had recently found a wonderful new partner in life, David William (Will) Bray, and was excited about his future with Will and in pursuing new educational and career opportunities.

I heard of Josh's death only recently. I am deeply sorry and can only imagine the sense of grief and loss his family must be suffering. I knew him only a little, but feel a real loss at the realization of his death. I hope his family, particularly his parents, will know that I and so many others had great affection and appreciation for their son Joshua. He was a friend, a good friend to many, a kind and loving person. God's peace to Josh, and to his family.

Dear Nicholson Family & Friends,

I am newly acquainted with your son through a book dedicated to him. I live in the Los Angeles area and thus never would have met him, but even here I feel his loss as it sounds as though he was such a positive benefit to this old tired world. I learned many years ago that though people die they are never really gone. The love remains alive and I think in some fashion the life force continues even though we can't see it. You have my deepest condolences in your grief, but what a blessing that you had him as part of your lives as you did. I wish I'd had a son like him! May God keep all of you in the palm of his hand.

Linda and Ray,
We were deeply saddened on hearing about Josh. From the moment we met him he displayed a personality and athletic ability that we enjoyed watching at practice and in competition. As the Team Mom of Large Coed at Georgia All Stars I saw him all the time with a great big smile on his face. He loved cheering and it showed. My son Geoff cheered with him at Georgia and also saw him a number of times at Kennesaw as a fellow student. Our continued love, support and prayers are with you at this time.

Mr. & Mrs. Nicholson,

I cannot express how sorry I am for your loss. I cheered with Josh on Stingrays Smoke where I got the honor of getting to know Josh. Over the past few years he has taught me so much that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Josh brought joy into my life and was so hard working both academically and athletically! My family and I have you all in our thoughts and prayers and we are all thankful for knowing Josh and his happiness he brought to everyone's lives!

Dear Linda and Ray,

I can't express how deeply sorry I am for your loss. Josh was always so full of life. I remember all the fun years at the swimming pool when he swam with Nathan and Nicole on swim team. May your hearts soon be filled with only happy memories of Josh. God bless you today and always.

Dear Parents of Josh,
Although we have never met, I wanted to reach out to you and offer my condolences for your loss. I had the good fortune to meet your son once when he came over to our house one evening with our son. We sat around in our living room that evening talking with the "kids" and enjoying each other's company. Josh told us about his athletics and we were very impressed by his talent.

When my son told me about Josh's death, I was shocked that such a bright shining life could be ended so soon. I can not imagine the pain that you, his parents, must have right now. Josh was a beautiful soul. Your family, and Josh's friends are in my prayers. May you find comfort in God and may his presence guide you through the days ahead.

Sincerely,
Melanie Gilbertson

To the Nicholson Family,

Words can not describe how amazing your son was to so many people. I had watched him mature from high school at Norcross to an awesome young man in Atlanta. He always had a smiling face and brought joy that will forever be in our hearts. My thoughts are with you and all very close to Josh in this time of need. There is a light that will forever shine down on us from Josh, until we see him again.

Linda and Ray,

Over the last 18 or so years Mark & I have enjoyed the opportunities watching Josh grow up - starting as a little kindergartener to the handsome young man he was to become. From taking him snipe hunting with you, to the hours he spent with our sons and other neighborhood friends in silly costumes so they could video tape themselves, to tarantula sighting night hikes and swinging canopy walks in Costa Rica, your fun, adventurous, always upbeat and willing son has been a joy to be around. His life was way too short. But we will always remember, and look forward to many wonderful times reminiscing with you about him.

Dear Ray and Linda,
Josh worked for me for a short time at Steel Restaurant and was fantastic right away. He had a strong work ethic and was very conscientious. He was wonderful with our guests and had such a positive contagious attitude. He ate at the restaurant on his birthday and I would run into him from time to time. I am so sorry for your loss. Josh will be greatly missed. I will be out of town Saturday but you all will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Josh Nicholson was an amazing friend, I am at a loss of words to describe how terrible it is to lose him way before his time. I am thankful to have shared so many moments together with our friends, and for the times we got to have long conversations about life. Josh touched everybody's life that he met. You always lit up the room and put a smile on everyone's face. We shared both the best of times and the worst together. Having been through so much, you always were so thoughtful, genuine and supportive to anyone in need. I hope you RIP knowing how beautiful you made the world and how many lives you touched. You are loved and will be missed.
