Jovo Radovic Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 30 to Oct. 2, 2009.
JOVO RADOVIC July 7, 1935 September 28, 2009 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Jovo Radovic, our dear husband, father, grandfather and friend. Jovo passed away at the age of 74 on September 28, 2009 at St. Paul's Hospital. Jovo was born on July 7, 1935 in Yugoslavia. In Sarajevo, where he lived until 1995, his life was filled with his love for family and friends, happiness, success, and a passion for soccer. As a young boy he became a soccer player, and at the age of 25, after a very successful career, he decided to become a soccer coach. Although his primary occupation as managing engineer for the Yugoslavian Railway, coaching soccer was his true calling. Generations of young players became world class soccer stars under his guidance. He moved to Saskatoon in 1995 and immediately started connecting with the soccer community. In 1997 he became the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Soccer Coach. Very often he referred to those years as the most challenging and the most rewarding years of his life. For his work with the Huskies, in 1997 Jovo was named Canada West Men's Soccer Coach of the Year. He is loved and remembered by his wife, Nevenka; son, Nenad; daughter, Svjetlana Mestrovic; grandchildren, Boris, Lea and Nicolas Mestrovic; daughter-in-law, Daria Krstic; son-in-law, Darko Mestrovic; sister, Mira Zirojevic; brother, Danilo Radovic; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Jovo was predeceased by his son, Predrag; brother, Radoslav and his parents, Ljubica and Novica. A gathering for family and friends will be held at the family home (302 201 108th Street W) on Wednesday, September 30th and Thursday, October 1st, between the hours of 4:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 2, 2009 at 1:30 p.m., at St. John's Anglican Cathedral (816 Spadina Crescent East). A reception will follow in the church hall. Email condolences can be sent to [email protected]. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Refugee Fund 1-St. John's Anglican Cathedral. Arrangements are entrusted to the SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME. 244-5577

Our sincere sympathy to all the family. Our boys have had great soccer experiences and trips with Jovo. Many times I will hear Seth recounting something Jovo taught him or said. Jovo may be gone in person but he will always be with our family in spirit and memories.

To Jovo: Thank you so much for your dedication to our son's soccer training. You made a great impact on his life. And gosh, we'll miss seeing you doing your faithful run down by the river on Meewasin Trail.

To Jovo's family: May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief. Our prayers are with you and we will never forget his glowing smile. We'd like to think he is already busy lining up the angels in heaven and kicking the soccer ball around :)

Lana, Darko and family;
My sincere condolences on the passing of your father. I have had the blessing of spending time with you and being invited to share in your life; although I never met your father, he must have been a very special man, as displayed in his daughter and grandchildren. Jovo was such an inspiration to our son, Chris. Chris always said he learned so much from Jovo - they shared the same passion for soccer!! We loved having Jovo and his wife over to our home. Thanks from our family.
