Scottsburg - On August 10th, 2025, Joy Jerome (Sonny) Edrington, 88 of Scottsburg, IN and Fairdale, KY joined his heavenly father after a long battle with cancer. A beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he will always be remembered for his sense of humor, love of family, ancestry and being an avid card player. He was born in Bardstown. Kentucky, on March 29, 1937, and he spent most of his early years in Pine Knob, KY. In 1954, he graduated from Western Kentucky College Teachers Training School and went on to attend both the University of Kentucky and Western Kentucky University. Joy worked for several newspapers in California, Indiana and Kentucky. He retired from American Synthetic Rubber Company in 1981 and also The United States Postal Service in 2006 after 20 years of service. After retiring he loved to play Texas Hold'em and research his Boone and Lincoln ancestors. Along with his family he visited ancestral sights of the Edrington's in England. On July 31, 1958, he married Junelle Lashley Edrington in Monterey, California. The two shared 67 wonderful years of marriage enjoying life together, spending time at the JE Boone farm, and traveling. Their marriage yielded three children, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Joy is survived by his wife, Junelle, his brother Robert Dale, sister Linda Gail Jewell (Greg) and brother, Gregory Boone (Cindy), three children, Michael Jerome, Michelle Joy (Greg Leonard), John Jay (Sarah Lynn), seven grandchildren, Shaun Michael, Sarah Edrington Roe (Tyler), Megan Jack (J Anthony), Adeline, Jacqueline, Evelyn Edrington and one stepdaughter, Sophia Kirkman and five great grandchildren, Julian James Edrington, Hazel, John, Joshua and Rosemarie Jack. Joy is proceeded in death by his parents, John and Adeline Edrington. Funeral service for Joy will be on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 11:30am with Matthew Craig officiating at Collins Funeral Home. Friends are invited for visitation one hour prior to the service starting at 10:30am both at Collins Funeral Home, Scottsburg, Indiana. A graveside service will be held at 2:30pm CST at Ann Mariah Shain Deweese Cemetery Pine Knob, Ky. To join the funeral procession please meet at the Beasley Parkway Restaurant at the Caneyville WK Parkway exit at 2:00pm CST. Celebration of life at the JE Boone Farm, 2579 Old Hartford Road, Caneyville, Kentucky, following the burial in Pine Knob, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Joy's name to Ann Mariah Shain Deweese Cemetery in c/o Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana.
