Dear John, & Gemma,
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I had the good fortune to meet her once in the PAC, she was so full of joy & pride for you! May she rest in peace.

I had the honor and pleasure of teaching directly across the hall from Joyanne for many years at Middletown High School on Hunting Hill Avenue. She was the consummate professional educator--intelligent, kind, caring, and compassionate--and always emphasizing the critical importance of reading. She cared deeply about each of her students--always encouraging and providing words of support and guidance. Each morning, I would greet Joyanne at her classroom door, and she would sometimes show me a photo of her family; she was so proud of her children. My deepest condolences to the entire family on their loss.
With sadness,

My heart goes out to all the Hammonds. Joyanne was a joy to know and work with at Town Times and through our mutual good friend Jonas of Switzerland. Hugs, prayers and thoughts for all of you.

James, Pam, and family--we just learned this evening of your loss. We are truly, deeply sorry for it. We enjoyed every minute we spent with Joyanne on the sidelines of the soccer field, and are grateful we got the opportunity to know her even a little. Sending hugs and love--

More than 34 years of memories. Some of my favorites: meeting the twins and one of her Schnauzers for the first time, talking to her about the books she chose for her grandchildren to stretch their imagination and boundaries, sitting on the beach in Hammonassett, celebrating the twins' graduation from high school with some of Jeff's amazing pizzas, getting to know her mother, her courage in sending her young sons alone across the country to spend time in California with Uncle Jim and Aunt Barbara, watching the house she and Jeff built grow, sharing a table at John and Gemma's wedding. Cape May reunion, enjoying seeing her in the photos from the family trip to Europe this summer. Ended too soon, but so blessed to have had what we had. She was a lovely, loving woman.
