Mrs. Avis ‘Joyce’ Smith Brown, 83, of Parham Town Road, Bowman, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at her residence.
Mrs. Brown was born in Madison County on May 18, 1940, daughter of the late Plumer Grady Smith and Nancy Irene Dudley Smith. She was a retired seamstress and a member of Corinth Congregational Holiness Church. Joyce loved fishing and working in her flower gardens using her green thumb. She was an avid University of Georgia fan.
Survivors include her children: Tammy and David Bowers, Lamar and Lisa Brown, and Brian Brown, all of Bowman; grandchildren: Lacey and Justin Sanders, Lindsey Brown, and Jackson Bowers; great-granddaughter, Laken Sanders; stepson, Ron Hunsinger; siblings: Reuben and Kathy Smith of Elberton and Lanelle and Phil Moon of Greenwood, SC; siblings-in-law: Frances Smith of Bowman, Ann Smith of Bowman, and Dale Maxwell of Bowman; and numerous other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands: George William Brown and Ronald Frank Hunsinger, Sr.; and siblings: Harold Smith, Verlyn Smith, and Betty Ann Maxwell.
The family is at the residence of Tammy and David Bowers, 2223 Corinth Church Road, Bowman, and will receive friends on Sunday, August 6, from 2:00-4:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.
Funeral services celebrating Joyce’s life will be held on Monday, August 7, at 3:00p.m. at Dewy Rose Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenny Martin officiating. Private interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. She will be placed in the church at 2:00p.m.
Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in her memory to Dewy Rose Baptist Church Disciple Archery, 1923 Pulliam Mill Road, Dewy Rose, GA 30634.
