Joyce Lahr Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 6, 2023.
Joyce Ann Lahr, 81 of Cold Spring, MN passed away, from complications due to ALS, February 2nd, 2023 with her family at her side. Joyce is survived by her four grown children, Audrey Lahr Lenz (Randy, daughter Kayla & grandson Amar'e), Constance Lahr Koopman (Thomas), Jonathan Lahr, and Lynette Lahr, along with Joyce's three grandchildren, Dalton Lahr, DayLynn Lahr, and Dash Rose as well as Joyce's only surviving sibling; Gloria Timmer Beuning of Waite Park.

Joyce was born to John & Marie (Dirkes) Timmer on October 21st, 1941 in Albany Minnesota; one of seven children. She grew up in Waterloo Iowa where she graduated with honors from the Orange Consolidate High School, attended Upper Iowa University, and returned to college at age 48, graduating from St. Cloud Business College 1992. Joyce met her husband Clarence Peter Lahr at a dance. For years after that, they polka danced several times a week. They were married September 8, 1964 and started their life together in Cold Spring, MN.

Over the years, Joyce worked as a machinist at Electrolux, helped streamline processes at Columbia Gear and then opened her own business as a daycare provider for 11 years. Over those years, she shared her creativity with over a dozen families. She was an avid gardener, a proficient woodworker and she enjoyed sketching and painting on canvas. She was a member of Saint Boniface Church from the time she and Clarence moved to Cold Spring. She was a dedicated church and senior center volunteer. She wrote short stories and published her first children's book based on her beloved beagle Max - For the Love of Max. Joyce ended life just as she lived it; on her terms. She chose to donate her body to the University of Minnesota for study as part of the effort to help others not go through what she did with such a debilitating disease. She will be greatly missed by all her loving family and friends.

On Saturday May 20th Joyce's family will be hosting a Celebration of Life Open House from 1-3pm in Cold Spring at their home. 1007 1st Street South.

As the weather gets warmer, the birds are fluttering around her feeders and homemade houses only to find that I don't keep up with them like she did. It makes me sad and thankful for every little thing she accomplished while she was here. Love my Momma...

Today the ornamental pear and cherry trees are in full bloom. Mom loved the sent and she was a sucker for any flower! I'm sure she's smiling in Heaven right now.

What an Extraordinary Life! Mom lived her life with talent and purpose; she didn't just license her inventions, she created and marketed. She didn't just conceptualize her wood carvings, she painted, displayed and shared them. She didn't just paint canvas but rather she added color to her home, her art, glass, figurine displays, etc. She embraced every hobby and career choice with her heart. I look forward to talking with friends and family on May 20 to learn from you, who Joyce was in your life. Please join us in sharing the Love. Audrey

Here we went VIP to see John Michael Montgomery at Rollies in Sauk Rapids a couple years ago. We had soo much fun! We always enjoyed eating out together or cooking at home. Our restaurant adventures took us from walleye dinners to eating Chinese and Mexican food. Though no guacamole for you. Our brewery tour adventures, our 3 day weekends at home where you cooked my favorite meals and we just hung out. Priceless. It was always like a mini vacation for me to come home and I always slept like a baby. By the time I showered you would have breakfast on the table. Scrambled eggs, toast, bacon, fruit and sometimes a flower from the garden or you designed a flower with the fruit on our plates. You made sure our home was comfortable and inspiring. You taught me at a young age about gardening. I'd say growing up with 2 gardens got us kids off to a great start. Girls...time to pick beans and out the door we would go. Your bean soup was the best! You always made sure there was music playing at home or in the car. We watched so many music TV shows growing up. It is because of you that I hear and feel music mom. I miss your green eyes dancing when we talked. You made me so incredibly proud to be your daughter and I will cherish our memories forever.

What a beautiful tribune to your mom! She would be so very proud. Joyce was such a hard worker and always thought of her kids. I had gotten to know her through daycare. Keep all the wonderful memories close to your heart! Our deepest sympathy to your family. Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.

Your mom, my aunt, was a great woman. She was gentile and kind and loving and funny. The world was a better place because she was in it. I love you Aunt Joyce. I am so happy to know that she will get to see her sister Norita in Heaven after all these years. I am certain my mom is excited as well. Love you guys.
