Richard Curtis Atwell of Highlands, Texas passed from this life on April 8, 2024 at the Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital, in Baytown, Texas. Known as "Rick" to all of his friends and colleagues, he was born on August 8, 1959 at New Orleans, LA to the union of his parents, the late Kenneth Ray Atwell and Sally Ann Cockerham Atwell. Ironically having been born in New Orleans ,He would serve many years in that area as a Licensed Funeral Director and served his very hardest during the time following the devastation of Katrina. Even during this time Rick used his love of music and the gift of singing on the streets of New Orleans to help him and others during this devastating time. Rick truly cared for people and used his God Given Talent of nurturing strength and comfort to the bereaved at the very lowest times in their lives. Rick also served in the Army National Guard and was extremely proud of his service to the people of America.

Funeral services will be held on Friday April 19, 2024 at 10:00 AM graveside at Lincecum Cemetery at Georgetown with burial with full military honors, under direction of Riser & Son Funeral Home of Olla. Bro. Joe Bruce will be the officiating pastor.
Rick was also preceded in death by his beloved wife Judy, his parents and an uncle Troy Cockerham.
Left to celebrate a life well lived is his daughter Audra Deanne Atwell of Zapata, Texas; his brother: Ray Atwell and wife Teresa of Olla; his aunt: Jena Cockerham of Tullos; and two wonderful grandchildren: Alinna Garcia of San Antonio and Joseph Garcia of Zapata, Texas .

Serving as pallbearers will be Nathan Perot, Scott Cockerham, O. D. Atwell, Jeff Atwell, Sheldon Smith and Ray Atwell.
