Joyce Reid Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 3, 2023.
Joyce Elaine Reid was born to Everett and Tamiline Reid on March 9, 1947 in Washington, DC. She spent her childhood in Washington, DC and Maryland, having graduated from Burdick Vocational High School.

She met her husband (Robert) at a dance in Quantico, VA, and the two married in 1965. In 1966, they had their first child, Denise, and their second child, Karen, followed in 1971. Their marriage ended in divorce after 25 years together.

Joyce spent the majority of her life working in positions that help others. She had an infectious laugh, a wonderful sense of humor, and had the ability to turn someone's bad experience into a good one by just talking with them.

She loved traveling and took her family on wonderful vacations and weekend road trips. Her love of 80's rock took her to many concerts over the years. She loved the Royals (and talked about them frequently!) Apparently, she loved them so much, that when the Queen passed, she passed 2 days later.

She retired in 2010 and spent her retiring years at home, battling health issues.

Joyce passed away on September 10, 2022, with her daughters nearby.

She was predeceased by her parents, beloved grandparents, Robert and Lena, and all of her aunts and uncles. Most recently, she lost her oldest sister, Shirley Hamilton.

Joyce is survived by her 2 daughters, Denise Przybylowicz (Paul) and Karen Lindquist (Douglas), her grandchildren, Gabrielle Rodriguez and David Lindquist, and her great-grandchildren, Aubrie and Summerlynn. She is also survived by her sister, Mae Barnett, her nephews, Jeffrey Hamilton, Dean Hamilton, Michael Barnett, Curtis Gill, and their families, and her most beloved companion, Sid. She is also survived by her Canadian Gregan family, Lorn, Jason, and their families, and her dear friend, Judy Stermer (thanks for the "hoovering"; she loved saying it)

We would like to thank all those who took care of our mother in her declining years; most of all, Toi, Rhonda, Tom, and Lisa. It was you we counted on when we were unable to be there, and we are forever grateful.

We love you, Mom, and we miss you terribly. We talk about you and to you every single day. We love you more.

Am beyond sad to see Joyce has passed. Wish we had kept in touch more. I know her daughters meant the world to her. We had some good talks. Miss those...
