Virginia Young Spann (Joyce), 87, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.
She was born on December 23, 1935 in Charlotte, NC, to the late Marguerite Heidenreich Young and the late John Ossian Young.
Joyce received a two year secretarial degree from the University of South Carolina. She worked side by side with her husband running and operating, Pringle Spann Trucking Company. As an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, she utilized her gifts by teaching Sunday School for forty four years. On her free time, one could find Joyce playing duplicate bridge where she received her masters. Joyce immensely love enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Pringle Spann and her three sisters: Iris Watkins, Lorraine Bonds, and Frances Barnett.
She is survived by her children: Marguerite Clayton (Michael Clayton) of Summerville, SC; Julia Mitchell (Paul) of Bamberg, SC; Albert Pringle Spann, Jr. of Charleston, SC; and Natalie Crenshaw of Charleston, SC. Grandchildren include: Elizabeth Maute, John Mitchell, Paul Mitchell, William Mitchell, Brooke Hamilton, and Ray Crenshaw. Great- grandchildren include: Gabe Maute, Lillie Maute, Tanner Mitchell, Ellie Mitchell, Everly Mitchell, Willow Crenshaw and Norah Crenshaw.
The family will receive friends and family on Sunday, January 29, 2023 from 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 714 Riverdale Drive, Charleston, SC, 29407. The funeral service will immediately follow at 1:30 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Alzheimer's Association, or a charity of choice.
