Joyce Westerkamp

Joyce van den Dungen Bille – van der Hoeven – Westerkamp age 83 from Placerville passed from this life into the arms of her Lord and Savior in April 2018 from complications of a broken hip.

She was born in Palembang Sumatra Indonesia in August 1934. She was the second of four children born to Henri and Freida van den Dungen Bille. She had many adventures as a child, with sister Orla and brothers, Robert and Fritz. Her favorite time was when the family lived in the mountains. In the early 1950's she met a young handsome Dutch man, Arie van der Hoeven. The two fell in love. After immigrating to The Netherlands, Joyce took typing and business classes, and in 1955, married Arie. Shortly after their wedding, Arie took a job that moved the young couple to Biak, Dutch New Guinea. Their first daughter Mira was born there in 1958. They moved back to The Netherlands three years later. They were able to immigrate to the United States in 1962 where their second daughter Joan was born. Joyce and Arie took night school classes to gain their citizenship, and Joyce also took typing and shorthand classes. They proudly became citizens in 1967. The following year Arie took a job in Northern California for SMUD. They lived very happily in their mountain home, embracing the life of raising children, wood cutting, camping, fishing and gold panning. Her beloved Arie was taken from her in 1971 in an industrial accident. She came through that tough time with the love, help and support of her extended family. Later, through family, she met Alexander Westerkamp. They were married in 1976. Joyce and daughter Joan moved to Downey and she embraced her new life which now included three stepsons, Rob, Michael and Steven. She loved her family, her church, bible studies and the many friends she and Alex had together. Joyce loved to cook, sew, crochet and she loved to play her electronic pocket Yahtzee game. Her beloved Alex passed into the arms of the Lord in December 2007. Joyce lived her last years back in Northern California surrounded by the nature and wildlife she so loved. She enjoyed going for drives in the car where she could see the towering pines and the rivers as they flowed. She passed away at home surrounded by the family that loved her dearly.

She is survived by her brother Robert (Ineke) van den Dungen Bille, daughter Mira (Chuck) Zollars, daughter Joan (Rick) Jaunzemis, stepson Rob (Robin) Westerkamp, stepson Steven (Tami) Westerkamp, grandsons Ryan (Dionne) Custis, Shane (Nikki) Custis, Armen Aslanian, Kevin Aslainian, Nathan Westerkamp, Christiaan Westerkamp. Great grandsons Luke, Arie, Gavin and Jack and she is survived by many nieces and nephews.
