Joycelyn (Lene) Mae Orsot-LeCompte was born on July 13, 1945, in New Iberia, Louisiana to the late Sterling and Suzette (Barras) Orsot.  She departed this life on January 14, 2022, at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her children.  The baby of eleven children, Joycelyn accepted the Lord at an early age and shared that love of God with her children.

Joycelyn moved to Lake Charles in 1948, where she married and had 6 children.  She was the ultimate Mother; nurturing, attentive, loving, gentle, firm yet kind.  She shared her knowledge and family traditions with her children, teaching them how to work, how to take care of a home and how to run the Masonry business that she owned.  Family was the most important part of her life, her children, siblings, grandkids, nieces, and nephews; she embraced her whole family with a loving smile and kind word.  That embrace was also extended to the spouses of her family, she loved to welcome new members to her family.  Sunday and Holiday dinners always included her sister-in-law, Gloria LeCompte Johnson, and her niece, Claudia Johnson.

Joycelyn had many joys in her life that she shared with her children.  Cooking was one of those special joys and she was exceptional at it.  Making boudin, for the year, was a family affair, with everyone pitching in to help, or at least taste test the mild, hot and hottest that she made.  She loved shopping, especially with her girls, it gave them too opportunity to hang out.  She liked going to the Casino, which usually turned into a family affair with her children and their spouses.  She loved traveling, dancing and some good, old-fashioned trash talking, which she could do with the best of them.  The funny faces she made were priceless.

She loved going fishing and crabbing, sharing this love with her children and grandkids.  There were many fun times and a lot of laughs down by the water.  Joycelyn was also an excellent seamstress, teaching her 3 daughters to sew.  That was a magical time for her and the girls.  She shared a special bond with the grandkids and had fun playing cards with them for the candy and chip jackpot.

Joycelyn was a strong, graceful, dignified woman who faced the many challenges of her life head on.  She prided herself on her appearance and made sure she was always looking good.  She carried herself, throughout her entire life, with strength, grace and dignity, a quality that is admired by many.  Our Dear Joycelyn departed this life, to be with the Lord, with the same strength, grace, and dignity that she carried throughout her entire life.

She was preceded in death by her son, Scott Anthony LeCompte; her sisters, Sedonia Granger, Bertina Nelson, and Veda Biagas; and her brothers, Peter, Francis, and Nicholas Orsot.

She leaves to mourn and cherish her beautiful memory, her children, Delton LeCompte, Jr. (Joyce), Germaine LeCompte, Tricia LeCompte, Dwayne LeCompte Sr. (Jamika), and Joycelyn (Joy) LeCompte, all of Lake Charles, LA, her grandchildren, Brittany LeCompte, Alexander and Seth Brown, Dwayne Jr., Aaliyah, Julian, and Gavin LeCompte, Joseph and Jayla Babin, Sterling LeCompte, Santana LeCompte; a handful of great-grandchildren; her brothers, Julian (Teresa) Orsot and Henry (Georgia) Orsot, her sisters, Irene Orsot-Metoyer and Maurine Orsot-Granger; her God-children, Russell Metoyer, Maura Pappion and Pauline Avant; and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives.

Her funeral mass will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 21, 2022, at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.  Monsignor Daniel Torres will officiate.  Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, with a private committal at Consolata Cemetery.  Visitation will be at University Baptist Church on Friday from 11:30 AM to 1:45 PM, with a rosary at 1:00 PM.
