Juanita Anne Garrett Boyer, 88, of Barco, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 at Sentara Barco Nursing Home. Born June 24, 1924 in Moyock, she was the daughter of the late Marion Weaver and Trevah Louise Pitts Garrett and was the wife of the late Alan Gilbert Boyer. Mrs. Boyer was a graduate of Moyock High School and later received her Associates of Science degree in Ashville. She also studied nursing at Norfolk General Hospital in the 1950's and completed the school of cosmetology in Largo, Fla. where she worked as a beautician for several years. In the 1940's, Mrs. Boyer was an usherette at Wells Theater and had been a clerk at Woolworth's Five and Dime. She volunteered with Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk, Va. and was in charge of the food pantry at First Baptist Church in Washington. Mrs. Boyer is survived by a daughter, Joy Lamancusa Tomlin of Coinjock; two sons, Glen Charles Lamancusa of Leland and Christopher Kelly Okano of Bear Creek; four grandchildren, Babette B. Vick of Dinwiddie, Va., Derrick J. Barcroft of Poplar Branch, Jennifer L. White of Washington and Glen C. Lamancusa Jr. of Washington; five great-grandchildren, Brittany B. Huber, US Navy, Valerie N. Vick of Coinjock, Dalton J. Barcroft of Poplar Branch, Allison B. White of Washington and Morgan Lamancusa of Washington. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dular Holt Garrett; and a sister, Trevah Louise Croom. A graveside memorial service will take place Monday, Jan. 7, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Laurel Memorial Gardens with the Rev. F. Joe Griffith officiating. The family will receive friends at the daughter's residence, 216 Worth Guard Road, Lot 9, Griggs Trailer Park, Coinjock. Twiford Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, is assisting the Boyer family. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.twifordfh.com.
