Judith Arlene Peterson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 28, 2025.
Judith Arlene Peterson went home to OUR FATHER and HIS SON. She was 86. She was greeted by all the dogs she ever loved. Born on September 12, 1938 at Englewood Hospital, Englewood, NJ. She passed at Binghamton General Hospital, Binghamton, NY, on April 15, 2025.

The Tappan Grammar School class of 1952 yearbook listed Judy as "the most talkative" and the person with "the most vitality". Her mother used to call Judy "my little monkey" for her propensity and skill climbing on the monkey bars at school and the luggage racks in the Rockland Coach Buses. Judy put that vitality to good use when she graduated from Rockland

State Hospital in 1961 as a Registered Professional Nurse. She worked at Nyack Hospital as a RN in medical-surgical units and emergency room. Beginning in 1965 she worked at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in med/surg, the cardiac monitor unit, open heart surgery recovery room, and orthopedic units. Moving to Florida with her mother Judy worked at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater, FL in med/surg and adult patient care. In 1987 she began working at Independent Home Health Services as a case manager. After Independent was acquired by Baycare Health System Judy supervised nurses in the north Clearwater office and later at the Palm Harbor office.

While working Judith earned a BS in Biochemistry from Lehman College, Bronx, NY, Magna Cum Laude, 1980. A BS in Nursing from the University of South Florida, Tampa, Cum Laude, 1984. And a Master of Science, Nursing from the University of South Florida, 1991. She was certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Medical/Surgery Nurse since 1986 and as a Home Health Nurse since 1993. She was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and she was an active member of the Northwood Presbyterian Church, Clearwater, Fl.

To her family Judy was the dutiful daughter, a wonderful sister, a generous aunt and the quiet one. She was predeceased by her father, Charles Anson Peterson, her mother, Minerva Agnes Peterson, her sister, Alice Titus, and her brother Charles Edward Peterson. Judy is survived by her brother Gregory Anson Peterson and nieces and nephew: Kathleen Peterson, David Peterson, Theresa (Thomas) Schiffhauer, Amy (Scott) Wilson, Paige (Michael) Hickey, Jennifer Chioma Teolis, and Ezri Mayr Chioma- She will be fondly remembered by her sisters in Christ at the Northwood Presbyterian Church, her many friends in the Woods at Anderson Park, Tarpon Springs and all her wonderful coworkers.

Judy strove to be of use in every situation except on Sunday after church, after lunch, where she would sit in her screened-in porch with her dog, Higgins, the Sunday newspaper on her lap and she would nap.

Special thanks to all the good people at the Endicott Senior Living Center, the Willow Point Nursing Home, Wilson Memorial Hospital, and Binghamton General Hospital. Special thanks to Judy's special friends Robin, Barb, Anna, Julie, Betsy, and the West Wing evening shift.

In lieu of flowers think fondly of Judy and be kind to each other

Interment to be in the Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill, NY at the convenience of the family. A memorial is to be scheduled at a later date.

Judy was the sweetest person and nurse that I have ever met in my life. !!!! When I was interviewing for a nursing job the director took me to meet Judy. We said hello and she looked at me and asked why do you want to go into home health?? I looked at her and said " I like old people" she stopped and looked at me and said "you´re hired!! "!! That was the beginning of a great friendship and an awesome caring and dedicated boss that I was sooo privileged to work for and with!!! Like a sister she was. A tender heart and caring smile . Judy was the BEST nurse that I have ever known !!and a BEST friend. I truly miss her.

I worked with Judy as a supervisor at Baycare from 1998 until she retired. She was highly respected by all. She was such a Professional & very devoted to her staff & pts. She will be longly remembered for sure. She loved her dog so & was very much a baseball fan. I was very fortunate to work with her.

God bless "Judy" Peterson! I certainly enjoyed working with Judy at Baycare Home Care where Judy was a Nursing Supervisor. Judy was always kind and considerate to both nursing staff an patients and very helpful to all! I will also always remember her as a great IV nurse! I recall fearlessly riding out a hurricane with Judy when she was a guest at my home & welcoming in a New Year at a nice New Year's Eve "get together"! Many nurses at Baycare (in the Tampa Bay Area) will always have fond memories of Judy!
